Well that's all very interesting information and thank yew very much for sharing.

However, I'm still curious about my question above about multiple folder sharing and configuring at one shot rather than individually.

Well Im saying that after I buy it I want to upgrade. I want the option to have more ram later if I need to.

hmmm, why dont you just put all the stuff you want to share in one folder and then adjust the NTFS permissions you need?

They already are... called the C:\drive!

Honestly, it's a collection of folders that has grown over the years. I could do that, but then I'd have to go back to some of my apps that work on where folders are located as they are and make adjustments there... as I discover the ones that no longer know where to find their data files or backup or whatever.

But that's not a bad idea. Which is to say that I suppose you are confirming the MS link I posted upthread that says it can't be done the way I want to do it.

I think my system is based on the Apache model.

Ahhh. Sounds like your machine could benefit from a good cleaning. Mine can get the same way. A big jumble of files. I'm trying to be more organized so I can share stuff more effectively.

That was part of the idea behind reloading the OS and programs on the new drive rather than cloning it. But it's not a full re-org since I've left most of the folders alone. But I am selectively installing my programs.

I have customized so many settings (like where Excel and Word store files) and set up my sync program accordingly, that changes on one computer will affect another.

I have other things to do than totally reorganize my computer life. I think. And so I make do... which while not perfect, is good enough.

That 's the beauty of a MAC jeb, no need to upgrade so often like a PC, and sooooooo less problems to deal with. (like none)

I got so fed up with my last 2 PC laptops and have not looked back since owning my MacBook Pro. Probably more power than I'll ever need, no need to upgrade.

In reality I paid more for my last 2 laptops than my Mac, now that in maddening!

I'm going on 3 years with my MacBook Air that gets used daily for web, email, watching videos/TV shows, music, word processing, spreadsheets, and even occasional 2D CAD work. It has 2GB RAM - yes 2 gigs - and a 64GB SSD. It has never "caught" any type of malware (I've never used an anti-virus program on a Mac) and goes months - yes months - without rebooting. It has never "crashed". The battery still holds a 4-5 hour charge. For the above-mentioned tasks, it performs essentially as well as my newer 27" iMac with 16GB RAM and quad-core processor that cost over $2,000. For daily tasks, the MBA never even utilizes the full 2GB of RAM unless I have a LOT of programs open at once or I'm doing some video editing. The iMac has never used more than 4GB of the 16GB available - under any task. Perhaps if I were editing feature-length films or editing a 3D model of a space shuttle, the 16GB might come in handy, but I don't do that. Apple has always kept a reasonable cap on the "bloat" of the UNIX-based OS X unlike Microsoft's Windows that just keeps getting bigger and bigger and more and more fragmented. Part of that problem is they recycle a lot of old code so you can run that outdated Expert Software 1,001 Games CD your grandma bought in 1995. Another part of the problem is that they have to include support for a virtually infinite combination of hardware from dozens of manufacturers. Apple only has to include support for several dozens of models that they designed over the last several years. Manufacturers like Dell, HP, and Toshiba crank out new models of computers so fast and frequently that few, if any will ever stand out or be memorable in any way. But, if you mention the first MacBook Air or the eMac and any Apple enthusiast and many non-Apple folks will know exactly what you're talking about. Most any computer user will recognize the first iMac in Bondi Blue from 1998 to 2003. How DARE they not include a 3.5" floppy drive! But, will anyone remember the Company Presario S5100NX I purchased in 2003? Probably not - even if you owned one you probably didn't know the model number or even remember owning it.

I don't know if my iPad 1 (64GB) is applicable to this discussion or not. But it is common for apps to crash and I have to restart it often so I don't run low on memory on certain apps that I use. No USB ports. NO flash, etc. Many shortcomings. But I still like it and would like a new one.

Well I am biased. I work in IT where 99 percent of the networks and servers I build are for windows PCs. I support windows PCs and I make a good living doing that. IIRC Apple made a server and it SUCKEDDDDD. Now they dont. Good. We can argue till we are blue in the face but when it comes down to it their will always be people that are die hard mac fans. I run in to them every day. There will also be Windows fans. I believe I fall in between I like their products, they are useless for me in my job. I do love my iPad though and have had iphones for years. Got rid of it because apple refused to make the screen bigger.
I stand by my opinions. Final opinion: for the premium price... GIVE ME EXPAND ABILITY!
