My first inclination is always the Battery, but who knows these days with all the electronics in vehicles theses days!

Good luck Gouranga

The same kinda thing happened to me recently. http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/f...ad.php?t=49409 Ran some premium gas through it and the light never came on again. Just took a 700 mile trip, and it ran without any problems. Try a full tank of premium gas and see what happens.

Premium had nothing to do with it. I bet the previous tank had bad gas in it.

I doubt it did either, maybe coincidence, maybe not. By filling up with Premium it may have diluted the bad gas. I'm just stating what happened and what I did about it. Certainly worth a try.

Re: Truck shakes on start up... Engine light flashing/ON

You truck is a computer on wheels - if the Battery did not have enough oomph to get the computers started correctly to run the engine funny things can happen.

My dealer told me my 1 year old, 100 month Honda battery was not marginal enough to replace - it showed 410CCA at the test - 380CCA or less is the replacement value. Every morning it started funny if at all when cold unless I charged it first.

Replaced the 550CCA Honda Battery with a 840CCA Walmart $88.00 Battery with a 5 year 2.5 years 100% replacement. Not a funny start up even when the temps got to single digits.

Premium gas is a waste of money unless you are towing - a bottle of good fuel injector cleaner ( not the 99 cent junk ). is a better solution to bad gas.

Now, you are talking a real waste of money! Gas already has detergents in it!

Re: Truck shakes on start up... Engine light flashing/ON

I got engine shaking for ya! The current 3rd generation Prius (2010 and later - mine included) has an intermittent problem with very rough starts that sound like the engine is beating itself to death. It appears to be caused by starting the car, allowing the internal cumbustion engine to start (the ICE usually starts about 14 seconds after hitting the start button), and then turning the car off before the ICE fully warms up. The next startup is filled with bangs and shudders which may smooth out after 30-60 seconds. If I have to move the car a short distance, say out into the driveway to wash, I try to move it quickly in EV mode before the ICE fires up. If I'm not quick enough, I let the ICE run for about 5 minutes to ensure that the next startup isn't noisy.

Yes, it's a PITA, but preventable. Toyota hasn't figured out a fix for it yet. It's a quirk that I live with given that the car delivers between 45 and 50 MPG for my long commutes.

Re: Truck shakes on start up... Engine light flashing/ON

Bad gas or dirty injectors would not cause a problem like this to come on so suddenly. Most likely, you're dealing with an electrical issue like everyone else is saying, or perhaps an issue with the fuel system. Probably unrelated, but have you checked your fuel trims? More specifically the LTFT (long term fuel trim). Check this out if your scan tool supports live data. You should see numbers relatively close to 0 once the engine warms up enough to exit open loop mode. If you see high (greater than 5) or low (less than -5) numbers, you may have an issue that may be related or unrelated.

Otherwise, I suggest getting your battery load tested. 585 CCA as per OEM spec still seems a little weak to me. Honda has been known to put relatively small batteries in their vehicles. I recommend something with about 700-750 CCA. You likely won't benefit from anything more than that.
