Passenger Air Bag

When no-one/nothing or someone is in the front passenger seat, all appears well. How ever when I place my briefcase on the front passenger seat (approx 8 pounds give or take) the Passenger Air Bag OFF light will come on, go off, come on, go off, etc. Remaining on about 15-60 seconds, and going off for 5 or so minutes. Whats up with that?
It is apparently something to do with the briefcase (nothing electronic inside) as it only happens with it.

The passenger seat has an integrated OPDS (Occupant Position Detection System) which senses if the occupant is too small of a passenger (ex:child, briefcase,etc...) and disables the passenger's airbag accordingly.

Your briefcase is probably partially setting off the tallest sensor of the pack and hence the flashing light. Stick a telephone book underneath your briefcase, and the "Airbag Off" light will probably stay extinguished.:)

Passenger airbags are normally on, on are only "off" if the light is on. The light will go on if the weight in the passengers seat is not enough.... or if the height or position of an object or passenger is not correct. Sit in the seat normally, buckle the belt and all will be functioning properly.
