First I make sure my blue and blue/white wires are hook up correctly. (power).
then he said I can take a 1 female to 2 male (for the rca hookup to new hu) cut off the female end and peal back the covering. (this is where it might get a little confusing) the outer mesh is the negative and inner is the positive, so I go to the green/red (assuming + ) and yellow/black (assuming -) wire and I need to find out which is positive or negative. I cut off the factory connection and get a battery from a drill or something similar and when i hookup one if the sub pops in its negative and if it pops out its positive, therefore telling me if i need to make it connect to the inner or outer mesh.
SO my question is, does this sound legit? Is this worth my time, I just ran a backup camera and that was the main reason I got the screen. (i didn't get nav, only option i didn't get I now read the forms which say you will lose factory sub and how to fix it with a bridge amp. Testing this idea before I buy an amp. Anybody got comments about this ?
As Shovelhd said - you will need an amplifier to use the sub. I didn't check the specs for the headunit - but it may have a crossover already for the sub.
I suggest an amplifier with between 50-100W - either a mono amp or a two channel amp that can be bridged.
So you will:
subout from headunit ---using interconnects---->new amp----->Ridgeline sub
I have no comments but I do have the same HU and am curious to see how this works out. I am installing Boston Acoustic component speakers in the front and rear to see what that result gets me before I decide what sub/amp to go with. I know I definitely won't be going with the factory sub.
No camera and I haven't tried playing vids from my iPhone yet. But my iPhone plays music and charges just fine with the white USB cable that comes with it.
Did you bypass the e-brake switch so you can view videos while moving yet? I Youtube'd it and found a guy doing it on the avh4100 and it worked fine on the 3100. It was using a relay so I don't have to flick a switch every time I want to watch a DVD. The relay makes it automatic.
I'm having trouble with the videos to play. When its on the ipod mode I can hear the music but can't see the video but when i hit the src button to av-1 I can see the video but it wont play unless in the ipod mode.
I have a switch right now thats mounted in the tray below the screen. How did you hook up a relay? Any pics ?
I wonder if it's because ipod mode is automatically assumed to be music only?
I'd send you the relay link on Youtube, but I can't access it at work.
I can tell you to search for "pioneer avh-p4100dvd bypass" on youtube, it was made by "soundguy" or something like that. Some dude with a hat and a black shirt standing by it. I had to watch it a few times to initially understand what he was doing and just paused it when I needed to while I was actually doing it. MAKE SURE YOU GET A 40AMP, 4-PRONG RELAY, that's the only one that will work. You can get 'em at Pep Boys or any stereo shop.
So my best bet would be to do the amp and not what the stereo shop told me ?
Also I'm wanting to post my USA spec ipod adapter for sale on the trading post but it says I'm not allowed??
Also DLIT I had that problem with youtube while I was interning and a way around that is to go to the youtube from Canada. instead of .com go to youtube.uk or something. Google it.
Just checked out the video, seems pretty easy. This guy did it on the video in like 5 mins. This will solve a huge headache. Thanks.
Don't worry if the relay's not a Bosch, mine's not and it works fine. It MUST be a 40 amp though. I got my HU and everything to install it for $330 shipped.
You have to raise your post count to post in the Trading Post.
