"Turtle Wax Ice" line Product Review

I was asked to evaluate these Turtle Wax Ice products and to write a Product Review... good or bad, just be honest.

Foam Away
This is essentially a waterless car wash in a can. Before I started on my Redrock truck, I had serious doubts to this one's effectiveness. So I read the directions and started. I spray it on my rear quarter panel and it comes out like wasp-kill spray then quickly "melts" to a liquid. At this point I used a microfiber towel and wiped the panel. Looked good and was still wet, so I moved to the next section, then the next. By the time I got to the front of the truck, my wiping was leaving residue everywhere. I was like "what the heck?" so I read the cannister again. DOH! I didn't read correctly the first time. I need two towels, a wet one and a drying towel. I follow the real directions, not my perceived directions and everything was excellent after that.

This is an ideal product for just before attending a meet or show when you may not have a car wash facility available. When my cannister gets empty, I will be buying another!

Ice Liquid Clay Bar
This product comes with a 4"x9" sponge. I performed this after I used the Foam Away product. I have never used a traditional Clay bar, so I can't make a comparison between the two.

I was a bit nervous when I started as I didn't know what to expect. So I REALLY read the directions this time. So I start and pour some liquid on the applicator and start rubbing. I wait for it to haze up and then wet (spray it off) the body panel that I just did and use a microfiber towel to dry the panel. Now I've had my truck 18 months now and has (shall I say had) a lot of little marks on the paint that just wouldn't come off during washing. Damn if this Liquid Clay bar didn't clean those right off. I couldn't believe it. I also noticed that the paint was overall deeper in color. I am impressed due to the results as well as the ease of use. When my bottle gets empty, I will be buying another!

Paste Polish
This product comes with a 4"x6" sponge and a microfiber towel. To do it well on bigger vehicles, you need at least two microfiber towels as they get moist/dirty as wipe off.

The paste goes on thick but it does spread a long way. As with traditional waxes, it will haze up. The difference is that Ice Paste Polish will not "white" your plastic pieces and will not leave white residue (powder) everywhere when wiping off the haze. Two huge pluses. The paste came off easily and perfectly at first, but as I got 3/4 around my truck, it was not coming off as evenly as I before. Meaning that I could see a slight streaky color difference on my hood, one of the last panels I did. What also may have contributed to this is that the microfiber towel I was using was getting dirty and also it had just started to sprinkle, so it the air was very humid.

Due to the first 3/4 of the truck's panel's quality, I think the quality is definitely there. I was just implementing in very poor atmospheric conditions at the end.

Car Wash
First off, a little goes a LOOONG way. My first time using this product, I poured a healthy amount in the bottom of my bucket. Well, I was rinsing for quadruple the amount of time I should have to get all of the soap off. This is a good product and due to the amount that is needed for unbelievable bubbles, I would buy this product as a bottle of this will last a very long time.

Re: Turtle Wax Ice line Product Review

Great review 757. I have a question though about the Ice Liquid Polish. This is the product I bought and have had a heck of a time working with it. The first application was OK, a little difficult to remove but a great shine. That time I had wanted to use my orbital polisher but it was not available so I used the supplied applicator sponge and supplied micro fiber towel to remove.
Now upon my second application 2 months later, removal was a bear! I used the electric polisher to apply and a micro fiber bonet on the polisher to remove. Giving at least 10 minuted between procedures seemed enough time. The product just seemed to smear. It came off but with very uneven results. Also little dots remained and were very hard to remove. The orbital polisher was no good so I finished removal with the micro fiber towel. I swear I threw my upper back and neck out trying to buff the product to an even shine. Most difficult "waxing" I have ever done
I will guess 3 possible probelms with what I did. First I should not have used the electric polisher, second I may have used too much liquid during the application and finally that the micro fiber towel was still too dirty from the first application 2 months earlier.
Any thoughts?
Oh yea, does 757 have anything to do with the airplane?

electric to apply? all that is needed is a hand swipe with light pressure. There are waxes for orbitals, but I have to go with this is not one of those waxes.

From my limited experience with these products, a little goes a long way and with the little amount used, removal is pretty easy. Plus clean towels to remove are a must.

Don't feel like you are alone, there are plenty of people that use way too much wax. I suggest following the directions and use very little paste/wax (of whatever brand you like). I think I put too much on a small part of my hood as it was difficult to get off and then let patchy/uneven results, just as you said.

Try putting a very very light amount of wax on a rear quarter panel and then wipe off. You think the wax isn't there or not enough? pour some water on it and see what happens. You'll be shocked how little amount of wax you really need.

757 comes from a shortening of my email keith_757 and no, no plane reference, just a yahoo random number.

Re: Turtle Wax Ice line Product Review

Hey Kieth; if you decide to do more testing and feel like a tour up North (and I know you tour as I have enjoyed viewing your photo's) I have a Formal Black that would be an excellent test subject!

Kidding!!

Thanks for the review, I was wondering about the Liquid Clay Bar and now I think I will run out and get it!

The spray detailer was not sent to me to write a review upon and I have not used it on my own yet. From what others have written on the Ice spray, I have to believe that it is easier to use than the paste, though it may not last quite as long.

I have used a similar product (Nanowax (link to thread... it is a good read)) and that works very easily.

Re: Turtle Wax Ice line Product Review

A freind of mine uses the spray quick detailer on his car between washes. He loves it and claims he has never used a better quick detailer. In the past he used the Meguiars quick detailer, it did not last nearly as long. The ICE will stay on after a good rainstorm too!

Hey Keith! Excellent reviews!
I've got a question about using the Liquid Clay Bar that I just got.

I'll be trying to use it properly this week-end and although I'm an "instruction reader", the info on the bottle doesn't mention a couple things...

Do you think it would be OK to use the LCB on the wet RL, immediately after washing it, even "spritzing it" with water while applying the LCB? I've never used a clay bar, either, but have read that it's essential to have a wet surface during use of a "real" clay bar, and was wondering if this would carry over to the LCB product. [not mentioned on the bottle]

And... what's the next step AFTER using the LCB with a cold water rinse? Will the surface need washed again? (Is there residue left after it's use?)
Or... can I go directly to the application of a polish? (I'll be using Nu-Finish... probably once a week for a few weeks.)

Although I may not be anal about keeping my RL "showroom-like", I AM bordering OCB about doing something properly, the first time (sometimes to the point of delaying the "pulling of the trigger").

Thanks for the help!
