Military, Para-Military, Red Cross Driver, etc.
Just wondered how many of us out there have served in the civil service in one way or another. ( You too sister Canada ) I guess I should try to be specific but I don't think I can with such a vass amount of ways to serve your country, state, city, town, village, etc. I do not mean to leave anyone out, but we so often discuss how proud we are of our country, let's vote and be proud of what we do in small ways also.
Volunteer and Part Time Paid Fire Fighter 30 years, ( paid part went to kids college fund ) Paramedic 5 years, Ohio Child/Passenger Safety Seat Inspector 5 years, President of Atheltic Boosters 15 years, Coaches Rep for Midget Football 7 years, volunteer bus driver for the elderly, Handwriting volunteer in 3rd grade for Vietnam Vets. I love this country. Where else can you do so many good things for so many people and be able to share it with so many friends across this great Nation!! Only in America!!!!

Re: Military, Para-Military, Red Cross Driver, etc.
You know you sort of narrowly defined the poll so many of us may not have an answer for you. I have worked as a teacher in the past but not currently, currently I work for one of them big internationally type corporation places. Eventually my goal is to get back into teaching, but I have no intention now or in the future of working for the government any more directly than teaching. That said, when I was about to enter college, I joined Navy ROTC and about 3 weeks before I had to sign my papers to join, I changed my mind and decided not to lock myself in for the next 10 years of my life (4 for college and 6 for after college service required at the time). This is not to be mistaken into any belief on my part about military or civil positions. I was carted around as an Air Force brat as a kid, many in my family were in the Navy, including an uncle who had his own ship for a short period of time before he retired from the military. I highly respect most civil/military employees.
That said, I think teacher should be included in your list. At last count my family had 7 teachers, and we aren't that big of a family.

Been there (Southeast Asia), done that...and now very proud of my son who is doing his part! His duty is very clandestine but he has told me that he is truly happy and totally enjoying it.
