SnugTop to offer a shell

EDIT: SnugTop has decided not to make a shell/cap for the ridge. Leer is the only one I know of who plans to currently and Leer says it should be available by November:

Actually that looks pretty good on the Avalanche. I may consider getting one now. For those people who dislike the angled sides of the bed this could help them out, too.

Re: SnugTop to offer a shell

They do look nice, but I wonder what the price will be, the one for the AV goes at just over $2000.00, based on some quick reading I just done.

Myself, I like the Tonnaue cover, it looks nice in the picture I saw today.

So an RT with hard cover, roof rack, bed rails, and maybe a sleeping bag, in case the other half throws me out

I was considering the Tonneau Cover but my current car is an expedition and I often find myself loading the back end up with stuff that would be higher than the cover and being the lazy guy that I am I keep it in the truck for a few days until I feel like unloading it. I hate the thought of leaving it exposed in the Ridgleline with the cover half open to the weather and theives. So then, I will forgoe the cover and wait for the shell to come out. If neccessary you can always take the shell off in a few minutes if you need to haul something really tall. I actually had two pickups before my Expediton and had shellls on both of them which worked out very well. Think I only had to take the shell off once on one of them in 15 years to haul something that wouldn't fit.

At any rate I expect the shell to be about the same price as the rest which is around $2000. More than willing to pay that considering I'll keep the truck for 10 years and the shell's functionality is well worth it over time. I hate crap getting dirty in the back on long hauls like going skiing. It's a 3 hour drive for me in the bay area to get to the slopes and I like to throw everyting in the back.

Re: SnugTop to offer a shell

You know, you can get a decent shell from dealers here in Houston for $1000. That's what I paid for the one I've got on my 97 Chevy full size now.

$2K is just crazy. Although, I didn notice from the write up that it said it was available at "Chevrolet Dealers Nationwide" so that probably accounts for the super sticker price. It never ceases to amaze me that dealers seems to be able to get twice the price of an specialty retailer for a similar truck accessory.

Re: SnugTop to offer a shell

I asked a SnugTop dealer if he could get a shell for my Ridgeline and he said after calling the factory that there is no top available or in the design at the present.
Maybe if a lot of us email SnugTop and keep asking we can get something happening.
There's always Callen Camper in El Cajor California. They make custom shells and campers. A little pricy but good quality.
