Computer help needed ASAP Please

The night before my online statistics class opens and I cannot use my pre-installed 2007 Word program or Excel program.

This is a relatively new Toshiba Laptop with Vista and pre-installed Microsoft Office. I can open word but when trying to type a document, ti says I cannot because the document is locked. I do not have a product key code because the software is pre-installed.

What can I do?

Btw, until tonight I have used the program and saved documents without any problems.

If you cannot get MS Office to work , try downloading and installing Open Office, an open source office suite that opens and edits all the versions of MS products. It is about 100MB, you will need a high speed connection to get it. Go to www.openoffice.org, best of all it's free! Good Luck

If you are opening a new document and trying to type in the blank window to create the text and if the machine is still under warranty, contact Toshiba product support and have them troubleshoot this for you. I sounds as if there is a setting that needs to be changed.

Apparently, I had a trial version and it has expired, I am trying the open office version. Thanks, if anyone has a product key code they want to share, I can make a deal with them.

Assuming that you doc is on your hard drive and you are running word 2007 you need to activate office or word.
or if you have activated it then
You should try opening the doc, do a control A to select all, do control C, create a new document with a new name, click within it and hit contol V.
After making sure it all comes into the new saved document ok, over write the old file with save as.
or
Download open office as it is a solid free single user non commercial program. Still might require the control A, control C, control V anyway.

I’ve used open office before and it works just as good without the bloat. Very important… When you save choose "Save as" and make the save as a Microsoft product word/ excel, ect... If you do not, you will not be able to open the file with anything but open office.

Well I'm a 50 year old programmer who's been programming for 25 years. I feel like I'm reasonably computer savvy - BUT I didn't know about this Open Office application - it will make a great solution for my neighbor who just got a new computer and doesn't want to fork out the cash for Office. It just goes to show you - We are never to old or to experienced to learn new tricks! It's amazing how we find these little jewels of information. Open Office is great. Just be sure and remove any Microsoft Office applications first.

Joe, you didn't really think Toshiba was going to give you a $399 full version of Office for free when you bought your computer, did you? The disk that comes with it says "Trial" on it. When you try and activate the trial version, it prompts you to buy it.

I don't like these trial ploys myself but you really didn't see this coming?
