I watched a report on the morning news... More than half of the cost in England is taxes...

didnt the article say that 70% of europe's fuel prices are taxes

to that I say, tax the oil companies - not the customers!!!!!!

So, directly from the article:

France: $8.67, with 70% being taxes
Here: $4, with about 11% being taxes

Take out tax, and France gets a gallon for $2.60
While here, without tax, it's $3.56

Anyone care to guess why there's such a huge difference?

I say demand.

If we reach ~$8/gal, people will have to make a median or better salary to be able to afford to drive, which will mean less demand on gas.... but on the plus side, congestion should be nill.

I hope so!! I only drive on weekends but dammit, traffic sucks in LA almost 24/7.
