want to get a FS spare: question about sizes

I want to get a FS spare for my RTL. I can't believe that this wasn't standard. Anyway... Looks like wheels on the RTL are 18x7.5 with P245/60R-18 Michelin LTX M/S tires. I want to buy a RIM from tirerack that is 18x8 and put the Michelin on that. If I got a flat, then I'd just put this FS spare on until I could get the original fixed. I know that the TPMS will be all whacked, but my bigger concern is towing a 4800lb boat + trailer and not having a FS space. Although the stock rims are 18x7.5, I can't see how 1 rim that's 18x8 would be an issue since the diamater is the same and the tire is the same so what's revolving and contacting the ground would be the same as the other 3 stock tires. Anyone have any experience, thoughts or comments? Thanks!

Re: want to get a FS spare: question about sizes

Since you're not shopping for an exact match on the rim (aka buying it from the local Honda dealer), the thing I would pay attention to is the circumference of your wheel/tire combination. After the bolt pattern & offset, that is.

The reason I would look at that before choosing between a 17" or 18" wheel is the circumference is what will make the difference in how many RPM's the wheel has, which means that your ABS & vehicle stability system won't freak out.

Something else to keep in mind is that steel wheels and the aluminum factory wheels use different lug nuts.

Re: want to get a FS spare: question about sizes

So I bought an allow 18x8 wheel with the same 45mm offset as the stock 18x7.5's that are on the RTL now. I am putting the exact same size Michelin LTX tire on the 18x8 rim as the 4 stock Michelins. Total cost shipped = $236 which is cheaper than what Honda wants just for a rim! The circumference will be the exact same, only thing is the FS spare on the 18x8 Rim will stick out a tiny bit further than the other 3 tires. This is GOT to be better if I get a flat and am towing 5000lbs than using that little tiny thin tire that's in there now.

Re: want to get a FS spare: question about sizes

Ebay has lots of factory wheels for less than $100. That is where I got my full sized spare.

Re: want to get a FS spare: question about sizes

I found a new steel rim on e-bay for $40. Discount tire gave me a free take off used tire and mounted it for free. When I tow I throw it in the bed.
