Leer or ARE camper shell

What has been the experience with either Leer or ARE camper shell? I'm considering the leer, but the guy selling it said that it has to be permanent to get a water tight seal.....says he has to apply silicone to the cab of the truck. Any thoughts/comments?

Thanks,
Gary

Re: Leer or ARE camper shell

We have a Leer and it is not permanent.

I don't know what others experience has been, but ours is just what was expected, dry and easy to remove. It weighs in at about 150#. Our leer just required silicone filler where the roof rack rails dip, and is easily replaceable when the top is taken off. Ours does not leak a drop. It has been through car washes and Texas rain storms.

I have a redrock colored leer cap. Was on the truck when i bought it...I took it off as i don't have much use for it. If you're interested in it let me know!!! It's just sitting in my pole barn

Re: Leer or ARE camper shell

I've had my Leer on for four months with no leaks. I did remove it for a day or so. No problem putting it back on either.

I have an ARE cap on the RL I just bought. We had a huge downpour yesterday and there's no water in the bed. Its for sale if you're looking.

On my Father's Dakota, he has a gasket made for caps that should be available anywhere. no slilicone. I believe it is a soft foam type gasket with and adhesive strip in the center. just install it and then your cap and clamp it down.
