Re: Any T1i owners here?
I've got the T1i also and love it. I'm fairly new to DSLRs but the one tip I could give is to check out a book by Scott Kelby called Digital Photography Vol1. It's pack full of great information in an easy to understand language.

Also, added "Ridegline" logo to both front doors. I love this truck!

Re: Any T1i owners here?
I don't have a T1i, but I just drool when I see them. Even Popular Photography magazine says it's the best camera on the market for under $1,000. Incredible what that camera will do, including HD videos. The camera I have is a few generations behind the T1i (Canon XT), so my next upgrade will likely be the T1i.
BUT....if you have any kind of digital camera, by all means, get a good image editing software program. This alone can make "good" pics into "great" pics. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements, and I'm convinced it's the best image editing program on the market, except for the full-blown Photoshop software (around $600). I have the older 5.0 version, and there's now an 8.0 version (about $80). Believe me, this is one of the very best investments you'll ever make if you like digital photography. With Elements, I've been able to produce pics that folks with cameras costing hundreds of dollars more have envied.

PJ,
also check out the Canon Digital Learning Center Lots of info there on using the Rebel series. Even if some of the modules are for older cameras, it still applies to your T1i. If you want some in person training, look up a Canon EOS Discovery Day in your area. take care Drew |

Re: Any T1i owners here?
PJ, I agree w/ Tcape about having good photo editing software, but would recommend Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 (or wait until April for 3.0). It's built BY photographers FOR photography and is intuitive, inexpensive, and extremely powerful. As a matter of fact, for most of my wedding photography editing I no longer use Photoshop, but do most of the post-processing in Lightroom. It's really sped up my process and you can get some incredible results quickly.
Scott Kelby IS a great author. He authors his books not as if he's teaching a class, but as if he's talking to a buddy that's asked him how to take better pictures. Down to earth, a little funny, and great advice. Also, if you do get Lightroom or go the extra mile and get the full Photoshop program (not necessary in my opinion after Lightroom unless you're truly doing professional stuff and getting paid for it... and even then, I do most of my work on Lightroom now anyways), always shoot in RAW format. Sure, JPEG makes your camera a little quicker, makes the files smaller, and makes it "easier" to transfer files and use them right off the bat... BUT with RAW files you can really make them incredible in post-processing afterwards nondestructively. If you shot the original image in the wrong settings and underexposed or overexposed it... guess what? w/ Lightroom and shooting in RAW it doesn't matter... it can correct it and no-one would know the difference. Used the wrong white balance so all the pictures you took that day are too yellow or too blue? Doesn't matter, in RAW format you can fix all that nondestructively. RAW is just the way to go... it has saved me more than once (and in weddings, where you can't just go shoot it again). |
