Re: Surface rust on my new RL?

Take it to your dealership. As long as it can be proven a paint defect and not your own error (scratched it or damaged to cause rust) then it will be repaired for free under warranty. Please do post pics to verify what you are seeing for further assistance

Re: Surface rust on my new RL?

If the spots are literally the size of a pin head, they are mostly likely tree sap. I had a White Dodge Dakota when I worked at a place that had trees in the parking lot. Each month I would clay bar my truck to get rid of the sap. One quick test is to use laquer thinner on a rag and gently wipe over a couple of spots and see if the come off. Either way, when done wash the wiped area with soap and water and wax.

Re: Surface rust on my new RL?

It's winter here now,so there are no leaves on the trees, plus i dont think i parked it near any trees...the truck is in the garage for the past 3 days..although they did put salt down on the road for the snow we had here.and yes it is the size of pin heads area around the bottom of the doors..I took my finger and gave it a good rub and it went away. This is my only white vehicle i've ever had..and 07 rtx i will try and post some pics of it.....

Re: Surface rust on my new RL?

It's tree sap. Some trees release sap year round. I think oak does...not sure. Turtle Wax Ice Clay Bar and Turtle Wax Spray detailer will work really well.

I read somewhere that white vehicles that are transported by rail often have this problem. It is caused by sparks from the rail car wheels flying up and burning tiny holes in the paint. I don't know if that is true or not, but it seems it could happen.

Try all the methods listed in previous posts. If the spots do not come off, take it to the dealer.

Happy New Year!

Re: Surface rust on my new RL?

I was going to tell you the same thing that Ol Norske said, I believe they may be small rust spots from train travel.
