Or do the windshield wipers go off when I take my foot off the brake? and if so what is the point?
As I was sitting in traffic today, it was raining, the windshield wipers were on and I started noticing that they were going at a funny pace. I then noticed that it seemed to be the exact moment I was taking my foot off the brake...

Yep, it's not just you. They pay attention a little bit cause you don't need them as much when you're stopped

When you are sitting at a stop light and you have the wipers on intermittent, you get a fresh swipe as you lift your foot and start to cross the intersection. Innovative feature!

Just leaving them on LO or OFF, and hitting the lever for MIST when you need a wipe, might be better, at least until you get into faster moving traffic.

Did you also know that the fastest intermitent setting is the wipers running at normal speed and when you stop they automatically go into an intermittent setting. When you start moving again they return to constant wipe. I think it's a great feature.
