NAV "DVD Read Error: Contact you Dealer"

I got this message once about a month ago. Nav was running at the time.

I pulled over, shut off truck, started again and all worked fine. Figured it was an errant message.

This afternoon, it started again without the Nav even on. If it does reset, it comes back within a few minutes of driving. With or without the Nav running (it may be running all the time, just not "OK'd" on the screen)

Took the disk out of the Nav drive and sure enough a quarter inch ring on the outside of the disk is marred in a very even pattern all the way around.

Any known issues with the drive unit causing this? Would like to know before calling the dealer. Also, should the damaged disk be warranty along with the drive unit?

Thanks !!

Honda will replace the disc and the navi unit if the navi unit caused the scratch. You need to get a copy of this TSB...

Service Bulletin 08-051, DVD Read Error, or No Route Displayed, and Navigation DVD Is Scratched

I'm on the hunt for a PDF of it now.

I will print out the pdf and have it with me just in case.

Thanks for the info !!!!!

Now when I pick the truck up I'll be much better informed about the problem and solutions -- thanks!

Thanks again for the bulletin Paul. I had it with me when the dealer checked the system.

Nav unit and disk are both on order.

I would print out the bulletin, bring it with you and see what Honda will do. If they will not replace under warranty, get a quote first and see if it makes more sense to upgrade to aftermarket head unit with nav. They seem to have better head units. Or see if anyone is selling a unit online. Some are replacing for aftermarket.

Re: NAV "DVD Read Error: Contact you Dealer"

I'm currently sitting in the waiting lounge at my local Honda dealership while my Nav unit is replaced under warranty . I have 2013 RTL with 11 k miles. The error message first occurred in December 2013 and ran with intermittent disk errors messages.
