Transmission fluid low

My Ridgeline has 24k on it and while in the garage I checked al the fluids since was on level ground. To my surprise the transmission fluid barely showed on the end of the dip stick. I looked under the trunk and cannot find any leaks or other signs of loss. Anyone have any thoughts as to the loss issue? "Supposedly" my dealer checked it during it's last oil change 2k ago.....

You did check this while the truck was running correct?

You mean of course after it was run until hot, then engine shut off for 60 seconds...

yes, if it was stone cold that might be why it is a little low. If it gets really low you will notice it when driving/shifting. No problem, just take her back and get it topped up.

I've seen large variances in the level with temperature changes.

Here's the OM procedure:

Either that or via the fill hole. If you use the dip stick, be careful that you don't drip ATF fluid on the starter just below.

Re: Transmission fluid low

for small quantities dipstick should be okay; get a good funnel. If you change your own ATF you need alot of patience with this method. Better to use proper fill hole, but do you have some good wrenches for this plug?

That is the way every other car I've ever worked on is, but not these evidently. I went to check mine today while it was running, and almost lost a finger in the radiator fan. As others may have found out, there isn't much clearance there. That is why I searched here on how to do it.

YEOW! I was just reading another thread about "setting up your own safety" and right here is the object lesson. Man, I'm glad you're okay and you still have all your digits.

Are you paying the dealer beaucoup $$'s to change your cabin air filter? Check out this all-time great thread!
