Re: heavenly butte

Jason,

It's a very nice shot and a beautiful scene. If I may, however, I'd like to make a suggestion before you make your canvas print.

Neither the ground (the dirt foreground) nor the sky have enough variation in them to warrant the weight they currently have in your composition.

It's the middle section that has the most interest, so I would crop the image so that that part is no less than 1/3 of the total scene. I'm sure you're familiar with the rule of thirds, which can work a few different ways. One way that usually works is to divide your composition into three equal elements. Something like what I have attached.

Hope this helps and you don't mind the suggestion. Again, great shot though!

Thank you for your comments. Please don't hesitate in the furture to comment on anything you see in my photos. All comment are meant to be helpful. Before I posted this photo I had cropped and looked and I am going with a different photo. I took a couple different angles and am going with this one. Please comment on this on as well.

Re: heavenly butte

Jason, the second shot is nice, too, and I like the weight you've given the three sections (sky, mountains and dirt). Going back to the rule of thirds, however, I would not recommend placing such a focal element and the foreground plant dead center in the image. Play around with cropping it, or looking at other shots, so that element is about 1/3 from either the right or left edge. For reference, that's pretty much what I did when I re-cropped your first shot. Let me know if that's not clear or if you have any questions.
