Lexus 400H traction control

My FIL has a 2006 model (FWD) and has trouble getting it to go on an icy hill. Seems the Traction Contol kills the power... which sounds just like our VSA system does on the RL/Pilot.

I thought I'd be a hero and show him how to disable TC so he could power out of those situations... except that I can't find a way to kill TC on the Lexus 400H. The manual merely mentions the feature.

Anyone here familiar with the 2006 Lexus 400H FWD? Is there any way to disable TC?

I know very little about Toyota/Lexus vehicles, but I happen to know this answer. You can't disable it in any reasonable way. You can disable the active suspension, but that doesn't disable the traction control.

There might be a fuse, but I don't know for sure.

Re: Lexus 400H traction control

I was looking up this very thing for a friend yesterday for her Camry. Apparently, you can turn OFF the traction control (via a button on lower dash) on all Camry models EXCEPT the hybrid. My guess is the 400H (hybrid) is the same -- for whatever reason.

Re: Lexus 400H traction control

Thanks for the input guys. I was afraid that would be the answer. That really cripples the hybrid vehicle in slippery conditions. What good is traction control if using it disables power due to lack of traction? Seems there's some circular logic at work here.

Re: Lexus 400H traction control

From other research, it seems the switch to disable TRAC on the 2006 does not exist on the hybrid models, either FWD or AWD. Apparently, Lexus thought better of this idea and included a switch to disable TRAC on later models, but I'm not sure what year they did this.

Bummer.
