Radio Locks Doors

This recently started happening. There is an aftermarket IPOD cable installed before I bought this truck used. It has never given me problems before, but now when the truck is running and you shut the drivers door all the doors lock. Ive been lock out three times already. I took it to the dealeship and they ran a diagnostic test on it, and they said the codes that are coming back are related to an audio problem. Then they said that even if they remove the cable ( 90 dollars and hour plus ) that they arnt even sure if it will fix the problem. Also now both key fobs only unlock the drivers door and nothing else. How can one cable be messing up soooo much stuff. Had anyone else had this problem.?????????? And Ive already done all the resets that the owners manual tells you to do. Im stumped.

Re: Radio Locks Doors

How's your battery?
Weak batteries seem to do weird things to our electrical systems.

Re: Radio Locks Doors

Batteries perfect. The only problem is the diagnostic codes for the audio....or maybe the dealership saw the after market idod cable and was trying to go on a fishing expedition. Who knows.....I know the dash is coming off soon. No panel popping tools so I guess a screw driver will do lol

Even if you press the key fob multiple times?

It sounds like the MICU for the door locks has gone bad. It is built into the fuse box beside the drivers left foot. If you have a pre-September 2005 built Ridgeline, it has an A11 fuse box - the replacement is an A12 and it will unlock all the door when the vehicle is put in park instead of just the drivers door.

The other part of the door lock system is the Door Mux Control in the drivers door power window master switch. The fuse box is pretty easy to replace, My 2006 Ridgeline had it done at the 2006 National Meet - the switch from an A11 to an A12 took about 15 minutes. It took longer to disconnect the connectors and remove the relays than to put it back together. I looked at the shop manual and there is nothing on the radio that could affect the door locks except the radio is disconnected signal to the immobilizer that signal then goes to the PCM. It has to be the MICU or the Door Mux Control.

Re: Radio Locks Doors

Both key fobs do the same thing. It locks fine lol but even with multiple button presses only the driver door unlock. Once you shut the door with the key in the ignition all the door cycle through there locking cycle and the final one is LOCK lol. I was told that some of the security features are integrated into the radio thats why the after market ipod connector might be the problem I still dont believe that one but ill pull the plug and see what happens. And this ridgeline is from 2006. My extended warranty wont touch any repairs casue since an aftermarket cord might be the problem they basically told me tuff luck

Re: Radio Locks Doors

2006... but is it a pre-September 2005 build? Check your door sticker for the build month.

Re: Radio Locks Doors

You might cure it by installing a snap-on torroid loop on the cable. Just like the ones on your USB cables and monitor cables.

For more understanding of the cool 'tricks' electrical interference can do, see this thread and follow a few of the links.

Electrical Interference / VTM-4 codes / HID's

You'll find them in the aisle next to the flux capacitors.

Here are pictures of one I took off an old EGA monitor cable. You loop the cable 2 times through the middle (hint make a circle and put the section that overlaps in the center of the torriod and close it.)
