Daytime Running Light module

Hello, I just ordered the DRL module from Hamsar. Their engineers were able to recommend a module that would work with our RL. I will keep everyone posted on the installation. The people at Hamsar said the install was easy and I should not have any problems. We'll see how it goes.

Hello Vertrkr, this is the company name: PUMA (1-800-354-3552) based in Ohio. Parts: For the US 2006 Honda Ridgeline the recommended DRL is the 45020 (basic), 45030(add waterproof protection), or 45035 (added waterproof, short circuit, high voltage & temp. protection). I purchased item #45035. My total including shipping is $42.23. The CSR I spoke with seemed knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanks, and good luck witht the install. Take pics once you figure where all the wires tap into. I remember reading an 'O5 Ody owner did this too with the Hamsar and had to do a bit of testing before figuring out which wires were which. Anyway, please take some pics if ya can where all the taps go when done.

Re: Daytime Running Light module

Couldn't stand waiting anymore so I talked with Hamsar and faxed them the wiring diagram just to make sure of the model kits that would work. They verified the 45020, 45030, 45070 would work. I ordered the 45070 for about $65 and it comes with a photo diode for automatic lights at night. I don't think it will be easy but I'll take pics of where everything gets connected once I track down everything.

Question Re: Daytime Running Light module

What are we trying to do? Are we trying for running lights through the factory wiring harness or are we just going for running lights through an outside source?

The outside source is an easy one with many choices, including running light with a wigwag feature for about $60.00 (Galls.com).

I decided to go with the front turn signals as running lights as you have seen on GM vehicles. The picture below shows them on for 4 seconds and off for 4 seconds…the picture does not do justice to the intensity of front turn signals. Should you want to know how bright they are all you have to do is turn on the hazard lights and stand in front of your truck.

Re: Daytime Running Light module

Wow, this is not easy. I have the Hamsar 45030 kit now and I've spent the last several days pouring over the Service Manual circuit diagrams trying to figure out where to connect everything. For the most part just one connection is giving me trouble, need to find one that's only hot in the ON position, not hot in ACC mode or anything else. Obviously tapping into the ignition key switch is the place to go but find the diagram for that and verifying it's condition was not easy. Anyway, think I got it all figured out now. Today I'll get out the volt meter and verify hot & ground conditions for the 7 wires to hook up and hopefully get it installed. I'll take pics of all connections so no one else has to go thru all the trouble I have.

Re: Daytime Running Light module

OK. I'm a bit confused. My RL has day time running lights. Is that because in Canada they are required?

I wanted to install HID lights in the RL, but might run into some difficulty because of the DRL.

I wonder if the DRL module from Honda for Canadian models is all you need - plug and play.

U.S. models don't have the DRLs installed like the Canadian ones do. I've researched and found you can't just pop in a relay, the Candian model has a different relay housing for this to accept the DRL & low beam cutoff relays.

I'm almost done installing my DRL kit. Actually have to make the connections now, I've spent many hours researching the service manual and verifying with a volt meter the proper places to make the connections. Yesterday I finally mounted the harness and ran it thru the firewall gromet, not very easy. All that's left is to make the connections. I'll make a full write up with pics in the mod & how to forum in a few days.

Update: got them installed and the work great.

This is good to know. We're going to Canada for vacation this summer. I guess we should drive with our lights on all the time, eh?
