Question Warranty issue Canada/USA

Has anybody had experience with Hondas warranty policy on vehicles purchased in Canada or the US and registered it in the other country. I have been told Honda America will not honor warranty on vehicles purchased in Canada and vice versa. They say you would have to return to the country it was purchased in for warranty service. I was also told by another dealer Honda would void the warranty if purchased in one country and titled in another. Hard to believe they could do that. There is a difference of several thousand dollars in the actual selling price [about 6000.00 US higher in Canada on an RTL w/ SR.] And we all know the Ridgeline is manufactured in Canada. This forum has been a wealth of information on researching the Ridgeline. Thanks to all who take the time to contribute.

Re: Warranty issue Canada/USA

I know when I raced MX, if I bought a honda in the states and won a race here in Canada they would not pay contingincy money, and vice versa. They said that that American Honda purchased the bikes from Japan and they paid out the money based on their purchases. and vice versa. Know I dont believe that if I was in the states and I had a break down with the ridge that a Honda dealership would not help me I bet they would, just my 2 cents worth !!

Re: Warranty issue Canada/USA

I was at a dealership once and overheard a conversation between an Odyssey owner and the dealership. Apparantly he had bought it some "cheap way" and it ended up being the Canadian version and American Honda was refusing the warranty. He spend a lot of time on the 800 number trying to get it resolved, but I don't think he ever got the work done under warranty.

So, to answer your question, yes it's true that if you buy Canadian and title in the U.S., you lose your warranty. I would assume the opposite is true as well, but don't know for sure.

My dealer told me that my Honda warranty would be honored at any Honda Dealership. I am in the military, they assured me that it would be honored anywhere.

I don't know what the answer is, but that is what I was told.

I bet that's assuming that you register a US model in the US, then it would be valid anywhere.

Re: Warranty issue Canada/USA

I bought my Ridgeline in the US and there definitely is a statement in the manual that says that if a vehicle is purchased in the US but registered in another country, warranty is voided. When I get the time I'll dig out the quote...

This is of course bogus, and a blatant attempt to force Canadians to purchase from Canadian dealerships.... but the fact that an equivalently-equipped unit North of the border would have been approximately $11,000 more expensive forced me to find an alternate. Kinda makes you wonder why a vehicle built in Canada is so ridiculously overpriced, doesn't it? One of those protectionist "Bend Over, Billy" things, I guess.

A service policy can be purchased in lieu of a warranty.

I bought this truck after a 1979 Civic, 1984 Civic, and 1997 C-RV. My experience has been that I've never actually needed to use any of the warranties. (After all, reliability is one of the main reasons I buy Hondas...)

For the most part I'd agree (that's why I didn't buy the extended warranty). Unfortunately, I've had to use the warranty several times on the RL. More, in fact, than on any other vehicle I've owned.

For those that care, this information is found on page 12 of the 2006 Ridgeline Warranties booklet.

General Warranty Provisions

Blah blah blah..... then:

"The warranties in this booklet do not cover: (Point 4)

Any vehicle while it is registered or normally driven outside the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands."
