Thumbs down 1694 Miles and my tranny went out already :(

Let's just say my experience thus far with my 06 Ridgeline has not been good. I was leaving a shopping center tonight, went to shift into reverse and low and behold, it wasn't there. The engine just revved and the gear just would not engage. There was no noise, no pop, grind or anything. Parking brake was not engaged, neither was anything else. Up until this point, almost every time i've shifted from Park to reverse, it's felt pretty sloppy. I've read reviews about the Ridgeline shifter being sloppy and notchy so I overlooked this thinking that's what it was. Luckily when this happened I had my girlfriend with me and was able to put her behind the wheel while I pushed it backwards enough to give us ample room to pull out of the lot and up the street about 1/4 mile to the dealership which luckily was still open...well the showroom at least. The manager was there and took all my info, then had a salesman drive us home. Tomorrow morning I"ll have the displeasure of dealing with both the rental car place and the dealership and i'm not looking forward to it. I gotta say, i've so far had 1 acura and 1 honda (essentially 2 hondas) and both have had garbage transmissions. If honda is looking to brand me, they're going about it the wrong way. Has anyone else had this problem? They're already talking about a new transmission. I don't wanna go through this, especially less than a month after buying it new.

Might just be as simple as low transmission fluid.

Low transmission fluid at 1694 miles? There are no leaks and drive 1/2 all work fine. It's only reverse.

You mean you can check that stuff?Seriously, 1 bad 1 out of over 5,000 here wouldn't be so bad a ratio.

You're right. Here's hoping it is something easily diagnosed and repaired.

We all feel your pain but I think overall the Ridgeline has had a glowing reliability record for a first year vehicle, regardless of brand. Most of the problems we've encountered have been cosmetic rather than mechanical. Yours is an obvious exception- good luck- hope it gets fixed quickly and your back on the road enjoying your ride.

Seems odd that you had transmission issues with your RL and Acura. Don't take this the wrong way but could it be driving habits? I see people all the time in parking lots backing out in reverse and popping it right into drive while still rolling backwards and vice versa. Do you tend to do that? My dad is great for doing that and has gone through some transmissions.
