Lightbulb BLACK Factory rims?

I thought I might see what you guys and gals think of this. I was / am considering a unique and stylish aftermarket wheel/tire upgrade for my Aberdeen Green RL.
Chrome is cool, polished lip rims look nice, and I like the look of 20's but all the concerns about swapping to weird sizes may be valid, and I'm not so much the "pimp-daddy" sort of person. So I came up with this: What about having the factory 17" rims painted or powdercoated black? Sort of an exterme version of the grey wheels on the RTX?
I thought with the green exterior, and black rims it might have kind of a military look?

Can the alloy be powdercoated?

Thanks.

Great idea. I've been thinking about doing the same thing. My buddy had his motorcycle wheels powder coated to look anadized. So I think it can be done.

WannaRTL, It's all about your taste & the function of your ride. If you carry heavy payloads, go off-roading sometimes and/or live in an area with bad roads then 20's are definitely not for you.

I'm in my mid-40's, a professional, happily-married with two children and I'm definitely not the "pimp-daddy" type; neither are quite a few other members who have opted for black 20's.

Sticking with a stock mag wheel is definitely, without a doubt, the safest bet for anyone. Yes, you can black powder-coat your stock 17" mag wheels but you won't have enough of a lip on the stock units to machine in order to get that machined look.

From experience, I don't regret installing 20'' rims on my ride one bit. If you are sensible and do your homework before buying, you will not have problems installing them on yours.

Re: BLACK Factory rims?

Yeah, you can powdercoat the stock alloy wheels. I have 20's for the summer but I wanted something a little different from all the other RL's for the winter. Sorry the pic quality is not the best but I have not been able to resize my nice pics to fit on here. let me know what you think...

Re: BLACK Factory rims?

No worries my friend... I put the 20's back on mine this week so nobody will mistake yours for mine.
