Chrome wheels in the winter?

Im debating whether I should put my OEM wheels and tires back on my RL during the winter? What do you people do/recommend?

I'm from the NE also, they salt the hell out of the roads around me. I vote you put the OE's back on.

If it's factory chrome, there coated and you should'nt have a problem... aftermartket.. lose em before the 1st snow/salting

Re: Chrome wheels in the winter?

yea, anything aftermarket chrome, I would takeoff before they start salting the roads. I let my chrome rims go a week once in the winter before cleaning them off and you could already see the oxidation and where the salt was starting to eat into the chrome. Most factory chrome/polished steel wheels have a clear coating to keep you from having to clean/buff out any impurites. the salt alos seeks havoc on your clear coat wheels too.

You could always pony up the money to buy OEM 'chrome look" wheels. They are actually polished aluminum which of course won't rust and most people can't tell the difference. You can purchase them from H and A for $330 each. I'm not sure what RL stock wheels cost, but it can't be that much difference. That way you can have chrome wheels all the time.
