IMHO hydroplaning is almost always a factor of the tires (and, of course, speed, amount of water on the road surface and tire pressure). I've found the Goodyear TripleTreds to be very forgiving in this area and have experienced almost none of it at highway speeds, even when going through some fairly deep runoff on a couple of sections of the Taconic State Parkway north of Westchester County. I attribute this primarily to their somewhat unique Aquachute directional-tread rain grooves which add a sort of "squeegee" action to channel away water.

Re: Just installed Yokohama Geolander HT/S...

I would agree about the tires being the primary factor, except that these tires do quite a good job in wet conditions until the truck hydoplanes. The truck is rock stable in wet conditions until one or more wheels get enough lift to hydoplane. When it does yes my sphicters pucker, it is different than any other car or truck I have driven. It as though the truck is pulled sideways slightly. In other cars I have experienced a sudden loss of traction, it is obviouse you are on top of the water and it is not the time for any sudden moves less you lose directional control. If you are in a corner yes you need to correct quickly. But in all other vehicles this has not rattled me like it does in the Ridge, I have not tried it with the VSA off, but my guess is, the computer sees a loss of traction and makes a correction that I am feeling that makes me uneasy. In all other cars I have had it has been my resposibility to control the car, having the computer step in may be confusing my senses. If somebody else grabbed the wheel in these conditions, I would smack them.

Ok, good deal, thanks for the update on the Yoko's. I think I will cross them off my future tire list. I only have 300 miles on mine...as I just got my RL last weekend! Never hurts to plan ahead.

I too have heard pretty good things about the Goodyear Fortera's, as BillB commented on.

I heard someone mention all-terrain tires. As I do some minor off-roading going down dirt trails I will be soon switching over to the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's. Yes they're pricey, but you get what you pay for. I've had them on other vehicles and loved them. You see a puddle in front of you, you just hit the gas harder and the vehicle would track right through it.

Re: Just installed Yokohama Geolander HT/S...

I called my tire guy. He told the Yoko distributor about my dissatisfaction. The Yoko dealer wanted me to know that I am the first to complain.

So my tire guy starts calling off all these other brands and so I said "How about another set of Yoko's?". My take is maybe I got a bad batch. You never know.

So today a new set was delivered to my tire guy, the swapout is this Saturday and I'll give an update when this is all hashed out.

Re: Just installed Yokohama Geolander HT/S...

I'd stick with the Yokos. I've had them since I bought some AVS intermediate for my Accord. They are still on the car around 9 years very little driving in the last 7 years and they still hold air, have no dry rot and handle well.

I also got rid of some Goodyears on a 01 4Runner and put some Yokos on and they were a great tire.

I only wish I didn't have to replace two tires because of a blow out making it longer until I can upgrade to cheaper and better tire.

Re: Just installed Yokohama Geolander HT/S...

Well I got a brand new set of the same tires put on this past saturday. And wouldn't you know it... They're great! No 42mph or 75mph issues. I must have gotten a bad set. Now I'm good and rollin on Yoko's happily!

Re: Just installed Yokohama Geolander HT/S...

Glad to hear that the Yokohama's are working out now. I am seriously considering them as replacements for the factory Michelins, when the time comes.
