Do these valve stems have caps?

Lets get this out of the way first....I'm not a car guy.

There...I said it.

So...last nite my Tire Pressure Monitor light came on, along with the indicator for the right rear tire.

I stopped at a poorly lit gas station that had an air pump station.

When I tried to take the valve stem cap off...it seemed as if the entire stem wanted to rotate...despite apparently being made of metal. Rather than force the issue, I just drove the short distance home.

Before I use a pair of pliers to try to take the damned cap off...I want to make sure there isn't something about these stems that I am not aware of (like some sort of snazzy integrated stem nozzle that you does not have a cap.)

So...after you are all done laughing at me for being a dork...help a guy out !

Thanks

Re: Do these valve stems have caps?

Not LOL! My truck has silver plastic caps on the valve stems. Try tightening the cap a smidge before loosening. Welcome to the ROC. Post some photos of your truck when you get a chance.

Re: Do these valve stems have caps?

Some of the early 2006 models had metal caps. Winter moisture and salt would cause galling of the TPMS stem threads, virtually welding it on. If you had one of these models, Honda sent you replacement plastic caps in the mail.

Do you have an early 2006 with metal caps or aftermarket metal caps?

Be careful taking the stuck cap off. The TPMS stem is aluminum and crushes easily. I would try WD-40 first. If you have to cut the cap off, that's better than destroying the $50 TPMS stem.

Re: Do these valve stems have caps?

Tom,
The nice metal caps can feel funny threading. Perhaps caps are missing. Press the end of the valve and see if it goes sssss...
