No 18s or 19s??
Thinking about new wheels/tires for the truck, but don't think I want to go with 20s. Looking around here, it seems everyone goes with 20s, 22s or replacement 17s. I'm not seeing anyone with 18s or 19s. What gives?

Re: No 18s or 19s??
Yup, you will find more choices in rims & tires by going with either a 20in rim or 22in rim. My street setup for my RL are 22in rims but when I decided to change out the 22in rims for a smaller size rim for the winter there wasn't much choices as far as sticking with the stock 17in rims & tires. Neither was 18s or 19s. There was nothing so I opted for a 20in rim & tire package.

Re: No 18s or 19s??
I went with 18s and there is a little difference that you can tell from the 17's. However, if you are looking to put an offroad tire on there you are gonna have a hell of a time. I ended up getting the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's in 265/60/r18 and that was the biggest hassle ever. I had to have 3 of them exchanged and road force balanced about 8 times now to get them to ride somewhat smooth. The next nice size in an 18 is a 285/60/r18 but that requires a lot of trimming. Not sure if you have a lift or not. If not, then the General Grabber AT2 comes in an 18 that is 30" exactly that would look very sweet on this truck. Same tread as the BFG ATs.

Re: No 18s or 19s??
I think most went with 20s or 22s because they think they look better.
I have not seen a single RL here or anywhere whose looks were improved with 22s. The ratio of rubber to wheel is just so wrong. But I think 22s look bad on Tahoes, Escalades, Expeditions, etc. too. And chrome? Ugh. 18s and 19s on a RL can look very good. I don't mean to offend any of you 22 fans. I just think the bling thing is just too much. And of course it makes the RL less useful off smooth pavement.

Re: No 18s or 19s??
I use my truck for everything from daily driver to offroad atv hauler. I love 20s but am hesitant due to the small amount of rubber I'd have to use to fit them. Was thinking 19s might suit my needs better. Toyo Proxes S/T 255/55/R19.

I agree with DREW just look at his Ridgeline and there's your answer. I'll be hooking myself up before the spring time. Just throw a shout out to the ROC's and they will send you ALL kinds of info.Best friends you will ever have if you ask me.

Re: No 18s or 19s??
Thanks for all the feedback. My other car/track toy is a Miata, and I have learned much about the evil of unsprung weight, which tends to be a by-product of going to larger wheels and tires.
I think the 17s look a bit wimpy, but I DO think that 20s and above look a bit too "Hot Wheels" for me (no offense, guys). I'm sure the ride is less compliant with those 20s, and I"m not convinced that lo-pro 20" tires are the way to go for a truck. A standard "plus 1" treatment would get me to an 18, which would improve the looks and hopefully allow me to find a wheel that's not drastically heavier than the stock 17. |
