Re: Which one would you buy and why?

I would be inclined to stick with the Michelins myself. I have 30K miles on mine & the tread shows virtually no wear. I can't recall owning a set of tires that I could've said that about after 30K miles.

BTW, I'm not locked into Michelins because that happens to be what Honda put on the truck. The OEM Michelins on our Ody were unremarkable, and the OEM Bridgestones that came on my daughter's Accord Coupe needed replacement (straight-up wear) at 33K miles. In both cases, I went with a Toyo directional tread "touring" tire. On the RL, however, I want to stick with a M&S tread. At replacement time, if there's a comparable Toyo, I may look at that, but the OEM Michelins have impressed me!

Re: Which one would you buy and why?

I replaced the the Michelins on my Accord with Yokohama Avid tires and I thought they were great, better than the Michelins that came with the car. I know the tires on the RL are great tires, but if I can improve then why not. I guess I will see I will probably be buying in a few weeks.

Re: Which one would you buy and why?

I'm actually surprised that the Michelin ratings are so low in comparison to your other choices. The only spec on the Firestone that doesn't impress me is the mileage rating: "Varies." Everything else looked pretty good, so go for it.

Now, one tire that didn't make your cut was the Pirelli Scorpion ATR. It's a beast of a tire, and I went through two sets of them on my Durango. The only ratings they fall lower than the Firestone on are the snow traction, and I can tell you that with them, I was able to take the Durango into bumper-deep (and deeper, once) snow several times with out a problem.

I've got about 55,000 miles to go before I buy my next set of tires, though.

ericrwalker, did you say you have 70k on your stock tires?? 70k! Unless you have special needs, why would you look elsewhere? I made a mistake when I replaced my tires. In St. Louis, the Honda guys made a big deal about the low rolling resistance of the oem tire.

Re: Which one would you buy and why?

because if there is a better quality tire I would like to go for that. I don't care about getting 40,000 or 100,000 miles on the tires... I want ride comfort and safety and road noise.

Whoa... careful what you ask for...

Great topic IMHO - I know where you are comin' from. I only have a total of 1,600+ miles and I am looking at tires +'s & -'s for safety/handling. I bought the RL for it's safety features (4yo Daughter to transport), and if there is a better tire, I would switch them out and save one for emergencies, and maybe sell the others.

Not saying that there is a better one, but I am looking and reading most of the tire threads. I may stay with the OEM's, but my options are open, as they say.

Re: Which one would you buy and why?

Thanks voicesinmyhead...exactly what I mean...my options are open and I have been looking as well...unfortunately there isn't a lot of opinion out there for the ridgeline and how well they handle with other than OEM tires yet because the truck is kind of new and the OEM tires seem to last forever.

Re: Which one would you buy and why?

I have the Destination A/Ts on my Ridgeline and my wife's Pilot. So far they are excellent. I hesitated to buy them since I'm not really a Firestone fan, but with such good reviews and pricing, I gave them a try. I agree that the Michelin LTX M/S are good tires, but I wanted something more agressive looking and for use in the mud/sand. The Firestones are very quiet for an all terrain type tire and have pretty good handling. They also have a nice sidewall. In my experience, the Firestone's have been better in heavy rain (Hydroplaning) than the Michelins. I've also taken them on the sand at the beach (Deflated to 18psi) with no problems. The stock Michelins also did well in the sand. If a main concern is quietness and wet driving, the Goodyears with the directional pattern will probably be the best. Good luck.
