I am thinking about replacing my rims with chrome 17 inch. Are the tire pressure sensors necessary? are they available for most brand rims.

TPMS sensors are not totally necessary for the truck to function but they are if you want the VSA system to work properly. If your truck does not have TPMS sensors, the computer will think that you have 4 flats and not allow you to turn of the VSA system if you become stuck. You will also get 4 annoying dashboard lights that tell you that you have low tire pressure constantly. There are no audible alarms as far as I know. The TPMS sensors for the RL are specific to the truck. They fit some rims but it's sort or a roll of the dice if they will fit the rims you purchase. Look thru this section of the board and check out the rims people have. Most of them mention if the TMPS sensors are compatible or not. You can also ask the manfacturer of the rim. They should know.
