Have You Bought Tires From TireRack.com

I know Tire Rack is a ROC sponsor/advertiser and I've successfully purchased from them recently. However, I have a few questions.

I plan on buying a set if tires for my daughters car. The pricing from Tire Rack is excellent. My question concerns what happens after the buy. Once purchased, Tire Rack will ship the tires to a local shop that's on their recommended installers list. In my case, it would be NTB. Has anyone done this and did you feel you paid an inflated price for the mounting because the tires weren't purchased from the installer?

Re: Have You Bought Tires From TireRack.com

I purchased a set about 6 months ago for my wife's Accord and was very happy with the transaction. It saved a good bit of money, they were running a special on the tires, and I had no problems with the sale and install. Tires ride great, Continental ProContacts. I had them installed at Merchants and it was a piece of cake, install prices were very reasonable and they didn't try to get me to buy anything extra. I think that you can get a road hazard policy through TireRack - I opted out (older car, don't drive too much). Not sure if you can get one through Merchants.

My sister also bought tires recently and wasn't so lucky in finding a good deal. She has a Saturn and found a local retailer that had prices at or better than TireRack for the tires that she wanted.

I might have just been lucky with the sale that TireRack was running. Anyway, I recommend the site if you are looking for a particular tire or if they are running a sale for one that will work for you. In any case, shopping around online and locally is always a good bet. Hope this helps!

Best Alternitive to Tire Rack is Discount Tire. They will match their price (plus shipping you have to pay) and they are local. I have used them for years.

If there is a Sams Club and you have a membership, check them out. Great price and lifetime rotation and road side assistance.

Not a member, but the one near me doesn't have an automotive center that I'm aware of.

They only do tire changes/rotations... no oil changes, inspections or things like that...

Re: Have You Bought Tires From TireRack.com

I recently purchased a set of tires (for another car) through Tire Rack.
I had them shipped to the recommended installer in my area.
The recommended installers post their prices for tire installations
on the web site and you can see what you can expect to pay when
you select the installer. Some are determined by wheel size and
some price by profile of the tire. The installer stands by the prices
on the website so you shouldn't be surprised by an inflated price.
I believe if that did happen then they wouldn't be a recommended
installer for Tire Rack very long. In my case I was charged for the
mounting and balancing but got the metal valve stems for free
even though the price was supposed to be an additional $5 each.

Re: Have You Bought Tires From TireRack.com

A long time ago, I bought some high performance tires from Tire Rack for my BMW 2002. I had them mounted at a local tire store for rack rates. These days, that's about $20 per wheel. If you think that's fair, then go for it. The tires from Tire Rack were first quality, no blems, no issues whatsoever. They came shipped UPS to my house.

Thanks everyone, it sounds pretty safe. I guess I was thinking "if it sounds to good to be true..."

Re: Have You Bought Tires From TireRack.com

There's a lotta crap out there on the Internet. You should be cautious, it's a major purchase. I sold my 2002 back in 1989, so these guys have been around a long time.
