Where to go? (to get wheels machined)

What type of establishment does one take wheels to for machining, just a general machine shop...........or is there a specialty place? I'd like to have new wheels machined like those in post number 15 here: Blue Ridge With Rims Ware Are You???

Re: Where to go?

Call a local tire / wheel shop and ask who they use for wheel repairs. Then call that place and ask how much they will charge you to do that type of work. I am guessing between $150 to $200 per wheel.

Re: Where to go? (to get wheels machined)

Thanks, Mike. I did as you suggested and now have the name of a shop that's supposed to do that sort of thing. I'll check with them on Monday. Thanks again.

Re: Where to go? (to get wheels machined)

Just a followup for anyone interested.

I finally made it to the custom wheel shop today. They said they'd strip and paint my wheels, and even powder clear-coat them to look like the pictures I'd brought with me, but wouldn't machine them. They didn't know anyone who would machine them for me. Also, the painting job would take 10 days and would cost $135 a wheel. So the "jury" is still out on this decision!!!!!

Re: Where to go? (to get wheels machined)

I have now called or personally been to every powdercoating shop I can find in the Oklahoma City Metro Area. (I'm sure there may be more than I found, but I did my best.) Anyway, the best price I could find was $139 a wheel to do the powdercoating they way I wanted and clearcoat on my new wheels. I actually best shop I was in wanted $150 a wheel. Pretty steep for right now. Will probably wait, but it's worth thinking about for the future.
