Tire Pressure

What is everyone running in their tires? Does a little extra air make a difference in MPG?

Re: Tire Pressure

Hey there,
I run 32-34 in mine... just because of the fluctuation during winter. A number of times I did try running 35-36 and didn't notice much of a difference... (20 miles added to the trip? maybe) and basically sacrifice the ride quality. So I just keep it about 32-34...

Re: Tire Pressure

I am going to keep mine at 36 lbs. Little rougher ride but I do think it helps the mpgs.

Re: Tire Pressure

35 year-round. I think it makes a difference with mpg and I like the rougher ride.

Re: Tire Pressure

I run 2 lbs. over recommended, which means that I run 34 lbs. I think it helps with the mpg, and since I've done that since my RL was new (2 months), I can't say whether it affects the ride or not, since I've never ridden in the RL with 32 psi tires. And I'm very well aware that over-inflating tires causes tire wear on the middle of the treads, and can cause premature tire replacement. I'm just hoping the improvement in mpg offsets the cost of replacing the tires a couple of thousand miles earlier. Given the current cost of gas, I think that's a good decision. Just my thoughts....your mileage may vary.

I've been running 35 psi on the RL since it was new and it's just under 35,000 miles and the tires are wearing evenly. I ran 35 psi on my Ford Ranger and Windstar (both recommended 32 psi) and the tires wore evenly and both lasted over 50,000 miles and they weren't the quality of the RL tires.

Re: Tire Pressure

Running 35 PSI nitrogen filled here with over 48,000 miles on the original tires and rotating them with every oil change as indicated by the maintenance minder. Tires still look great with very little wear (haven't used a wear indicator in a while though).
