Which is the best overall tire?

I am considering replacing the OEM's with another set of 245/65-17 Michelin
LTX M/S's or Goodyear Fortera TripleTred's. Of these two, which is the best? Does one provide better MPG's than the other, or quieter operation, or longer tread life? I have reviewed data at TireRack and will probably buy my next set from them, but I could not see a clear winner for my Ridge based on their info. Thanks.

Re: Which is the best overall tire?

Of course this thread will be a matter of personal preference, but my Ranger went 55k on Michelin LTX/AT's prior to trade in, and they looked about 50% worn. The Wranglers on my subsequent TITAN looked half worn at 20k when I traded em. I also pulled three nails/screws out of my Michelins with no leaks, and had to replace a Wrangler due to a nail (to the tune of $168.00).

Why are you considering changing tires? If you do a search, most are pretty happy with the longevity of the Michelins. I'll probably stay with em based on other's experiences.

Re: Which is the best overall tire?

I have 58K miles on the OEM Michelin LTX M/S's and will only be able to get another 5K out of them so I am looking now to figure out the optimal replacement solution. The data presented at TireRack between the two tires I mentikon would give the TripeTreds the edge but I don't know nor have any first hand knowledge about them. Thanks.

Re: Which is the best overall tire?

If you are getting >60k miles on tires and seemingly happy with them, why change?

I had tripletreds on my previous Accord. Great wet tire, but due to a stiffer sidewall, The ride is not as soft as other tires. The tread does give a little more road noise, but a cool noise, especially going around corners . Sounds like they are cutting into the pavement. Also they are directional tires (only roll one direction). Sounds like I don't like them. Not so, I definitely like.

Moosepond has the Tripletreds, but it is best for you to do a ROC search for Tripletreds as this has been discussed multiple times before.

Re: Which is the best overall tire?

I just bought an 06 RTL with 63,000 miles and it has the original LTXs on the rear and they still have 5-6/32nds. It now has Michelin 245/65/17 CrossTerrains on the front. I don't like them as well as I do ltxs but they are near new. What I think I'll do is move the CTs to the rear and put new LTXs on the front. I'll do that just before winter.

I got 60k plus out of LTXs on an Acura SLX and currently have a set on an 01 Sequoia. I love the thick ride new LTXs give.

What do you mean "thick ride"? New tread depth on the TripleTreds is 12/32" and for the LTX's it is 11/32" according to data at TireRack.com. Thanks.

Michelin trumps Goodyear every time.

Re: Which is the best overall tire?

For the price, you might want to check out the Bridgestone dueler HL. I've had a few sets of these and they are very nice wet road tires with good wear and a quiet ride. The Firestone Destination HT are less expensive and use the same rubber technology as the Bridgestones. I had a pair of these on my Titan and they were very nice, $200 less than a set of the Bridgestone Dueler HL.
