air filter replacement

I did some searches but mostly just found stuff on the "performance" air filters. Its time for me to replace my air filter and I was hoping to find a consensus who is making the best right now. My last truck had an amsoil Eaa filter and oil analysis showed it did superb but they dont have one for the RL yet? Anyway, any opinions much appreciated,

Mike

Re: air filter replacement

Thanks 5S,

I should have been more specific. I am not interested in a cold air intake, been down that road with other vehicles and formed some opinions on them. I think there is gains there to be had but really only will see it if you add an exhaust system that breathes. Anyway, that is a different subject

I am trying to locate a top quality "normal" air filter. The amsoil one I had on other vehicle was made of a different material and seemed to breath well but yet oil analysis showed it filtered well. Unfortunatley, they are not offering one for the the RL. I see they recommend the WIX but I dont know much about them.

Thanks again for the response

Mike

Re: air filter replacement

I was in the same boat about a month ago. As far as I know, only Wix and Fram make aftermarket "normal" drop-in replacements. K&N makes a drop-in oiler. I don't like Fram anything, I don't know anything about Wix, and I just didn't want the K&N (had one before with no problems, but I just don't want another one).
I could not ever find any of these locally, though, so I just went with a dealer part. I e-mailed Purolator, I think they feel there is not enough demand yet.

Incidentally, I replaced the engine air filter in my wife's Ody at the same time with a Purolator. There is a dig difference between the look and feel of the materials and "quality" between the oem and the aftermarket. The oem seems more well made. I know one was made in Israel but I am not sure which (Purolator, I think).

Re: air filter replacement

Why not get an OEM from the dealer parts department and replace it yourself? The filter box top needs to be unbolted, but it is a minor effort. There have been many discussions about replacing the entire intake apparatus, but not much discussion about anyone being terribly upset with the original style air filter.

Well Bill, that is probably what will happen, I was just making sure there wasnt some other drop in out there other than fram. Replacement will be done by myself, I do all maintenance on my vehicles.

Cool Re: air filter replacement

Just ordered K&N drop in for 2007 Ridgeline today $39.95 with free shipping. The 06 and 07 are the same filter according to Honda. Will be installing Flowmaster cat back tomorrow. Dealer quoted 2-3% better fuel mileage with the exhaust but, much better performance than stock. Cost approx. $230-260 installed.
