Re: K&N Filter Installation

Just wanted to add to this thread to explain the closed section that juts off of the air intake tube, someone called it a "condensation tube".

Its called a Helmholtz resonator, and it quiets intake noise, primarily whistling. They are used on newer "ram air" motorcycles, my previous CBR600F4i had them. Blow on the end of a straw and you get an idea of what its trying to prevent.

Re: K&N Filter Installation

I've had this same intake for about 8 months now and have loved it since day 1.

But it's just about time to clean the air charger, and I couldnt really figure out a way to get just the air charger out, without disassembling most of the kit.

Great product, but it just not fun removing/loosening bolts and sorts to get the air charger out.

Re: K&N Filter Installation

Just picked mine up from the automotive parts store. Looks very nice. Unfortunately I cannot install it until tomorrow afternoon......................
I have read the online instructions plus this thread and am hoping it is as straight forward as it looks. This will be my first attempt at any sort of modification to my vehicle on my own. I typically have had the mechanic do it.

Re: K&N Filter Installation

Very Good write up on the installation. My question is do you feel any power improvement and if you do where is the gain at?

The claim is ~10 hp gain. I looked at the dyno results that come with the kit and it is a similar curve to the stock, just slightly elevated. If you consider the % gain, the % is real low as 10 hp doesn't go far when you are starting with 250 hp.

Do you physically feel the difference? not really.
Do you hear a difference? OH YEAH.
Improve mpg? they claim yes, but when you have this, you'll get the same or lower as you'll be revving it a lot more than ever before as you'll love the sound. The engine has to breathe, right?

But with most performance mods, each mod taken individually will usually not gain you a lot, but the sum of a lot of little gains equals a nice big gain.

Re: K&N Filter Installation

I couldn't wait. Was out at 7:30 this morning installing the kit. I am glad I read this thread as the pictures and suggestions helped clear up some points in the install. Luckily I did not hit too many snags. The OEM filter I don't think had ever been changed because two of the bolts I doubted were going to come loose. The filter itself was quite dirty so I am glad I did this now. Other than tight quarters the hardest part was the crank case vent tube which as mentioned could have been closer to stock. It was a bit of a stretch. But in about an hour I had everything bolted together and just sat their to admire my work. This is the first time I have ever attempted something like this on one of my vehicles. While mechanically inclined and able to do a lot of stuff automobiles have been one of those areas I kept clear of.

As far as the sound goes I love it! At idle and lower rpms it has a touch more growl to it. 3000 is where she starts to sound throatier. 3500 you know when the VTEC kicks in. From then on its face spliting grin time. While it may help gas mileage the desire to rev this bad boy is going to negate that.

Thank you djeaux and k757 for this very helpful thread.
