Rotella T is designed for heavy duty diesel engines. The only viscosity that I know of is 5W-40 which is much too heavy for the Ridgeline.

Shell Rotella T is a very good diesel oil, and is rated but not designed for light duty gasoline engines that need a 5W-40 motor oil.

Mobil Delvac is a similar product (Delvac 1 is probably the best diesel oil made).

Just do yourself a favor and don't use Rotella T in your Ridgeline!

Re: Oil Filters?

I was just trying to figure out if I should use the Mobil 1 M1-110 or 104 filter!

Oil, I was going to switch to Mobil 1 5-20 synthetic, but you say 5-40??

The thing that confuses me is my wifes 04 Oddy used the small bodied 104, and the 05 uses the M1-110, which is physically larger. The 110 fits the 04, so I'd like to use that and the Mobil tech line said it will work fine.

The RL, will the 110 fit? or the 104?? or should I just use the purolator, that call out the same filter for the RL AND 04&05 Oddy...no difference.

I guess what is confusing is that some brands use the same part number across a given group and some use different part numbers for the same groiup.

I'd just like to buy a case of the same good quality filters for the O4 Oddy and 07 RL.

???????????????????

Use 5W-20 not 5W-40.

The larger M1-110 filter will fit the Ridgeline and you can use it if you choose. Any filter that fits the 2004 & 2005 Odyssey will fit your Ridgeline.

While the cutting open of filters is entertaining it says nothing as to the filtering properties of the filter. To note the number of pleats has noting to do with the filtering and to speculate on how well the end cap of the filter is secured without a stress or pressure test is total guess work.

To check on the filtering properties of any of the filters out there one would need to do flow and particulates tests. To reasonable discuss the properties of the filters one would need lab results not a “look and see” approach.

Re: Oil Filters?

I read some of this oil filter talk a while back and asked a man who has owned a auto shop for 35+ years. I asked him about all this oil filter talk and particularly about Fram filters that seem to get trashed so much and he said that with the exception of oil filters that mount horizontally (for which he didn't recommend Fram), there wasn't enough difference to worry about it.

Regarding using oil other than what the manufacturer recommends read my post at the above link. It's a true story.

Wink Re: Oil Filters?

Why I'm going with the Mobil M1-110 instead of my normal A/C Delco or WIX oil filter. (Running Mobil 1 5W-20, will go to 5W-30 when out of warranty)

I drive 7000 miles per year.

That's 14 oil changes at 5,000 miles per change over 10 years. May be fewer with the OLM, but for this purpose I'll assume 5,000 miles.

The Mobil M1-110 costs an additional $5.

Over 10 years an extra cost of $70. I can recoup that cost by training the kids to turn the lights out when they leave a room,

Ok I may just be out the $70 bucks over ten years.

Re: Oil Filters?

These things(RLs) cost too much money to use anything other than the mfg oil and filters. Do you think they will honor a warranty with some other oil and filter ? I don't think so.

Re: Oil Filters?

The warranty will cover you if you use non-Honda oil and filters. If you do the work yourself just keep receipts and records. Change as Honda rocommends and you won't have a problem. Want to know more about oil/filters and related subjects try BOBISTHEOILGUY.COM (bitog.com)

Lots of good info on that site. Don't bring up that you think you might not get warranty coverage if you don't use Honda stuff, unless you present it as a joke.
