Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

The only thing about doing the valve adjustment myself, if it is ever needed, is that you have to pull the intake manifold. That's not something I would want to do in that engine bay.

Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

Not exactly an apples to apples comparison but I had the TB/WP, tensioner pulley, and drive belts changed on my NSX recently. $1585. I worked to get the price down to that playing two Acura dealers against each other too. I have been told a valve adjustment is about $400.

8 hours of labor @ $99.50/hr.

Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

FYI, Montreal area Honda dealers are asking for a fixed price of $679 + tax to perform an A14

Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

I betcha that assumes they won't have to adjust the valves. That could be $614 all by itself.

Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

Update:

went to the dealer yesterday, and only got part of the work done since their price went up $300 from when I set up my appointment. Instead of around $500 to do the belt replacement, and the water pump replacement, they now wanted over $800. So I just had the dealer replace the spark plugs, and change the oil. $250 & 2.5 hours of my time.

I am going to call around next week to a couple of different dealers, and get a firm quote before I bring it back in for this necessary maintenance.

Looks like I'll be changing my own plugs.

Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

I'm one of the lucky few who get to replace the belt at 60,000. It gets pretty cold here. I only have 38,000 miles on my '06, but I think I'll get it done before next winter. It wouldn't do to have the belt fail!

...which I'll bet is pretty often! I think the size of the A/C knobs is trying to compensate for the tiny little bottle that Honda calls the "washer fluid reservoir". I can't recall having refilled a reservoir this often since the one on my '93 Cougar that had a leak.

Re: Got the A14 Maintenance Code.

I wonder how difficult it would be to replace the belt myself? I can adjust valves on all my Japanese motorcycles, I can't imagine this being real difficult, just pulling lots of plastic accessories out of the way first.

You've imagined wrong.
