If you don't take the plug out of the pan and it's not leaking, leave the crush washer there.

I find this an interesting topic. You might want to try going to a marine store to find an oil extractor. People with inboard motors have been changing their oil for decades using oil extractor. You will find several different types and different price ranges.

Most new boats come with a coupling on the dip stick tube now so you can easily hook up to it with a vacuum type pump. So you to not need to worry about having to long or short of tube.

I know this thread is old, and others have posted about the oil extractor..All I have to say is, I wish I had this years ago!!

I have used the Pela oil extractor for 2 oil changers so far. One on my daughter's Buick Regal, and yesterday I used it to change the oil in my RL. It works great! If I can help it, I won't be pulling a drain plug ever again.
