I't would be a more economical chioce if it's made by one of the better big oil companies.
Anyone??
Wal-Mart sells the SuperTech brand of synthetic oil. Usually under $15 for the five quart bottle.

There are two suppliers, Warren Performance Products, and Pennzoil. I've never actually seen SuperTech/Pennzoil in the store and I think Warren distributes over 90% of it.

The Warren product (you can identify it by looking for "WPP" on the bottom of the bottle) is a good one. It's not up to the level of Mobil 1, but better than a fake synthetic like Syntec.

I often use SuperTech synthetic oil and think it's a very good product for the price.

Re: What is your engine oil?

Mobile One and K&N Oil Filter.

I tow a 17' trailer 80% of the time with this truck and want to keep it for 10 years! I buy the oil and filter and Honda charges me $15 to change it. Worth it in my opinion.

Re: What is your engine oil?

I’m not an engine guru but I’ve built my share of hotrods and bikes over the years. Run an engine for 100K miles on regular sulfur based oils and do the same using Mobile 1. Tear them both down and tell me which one you would rather have in your driveway. I tore down a dodge 318 V8 that used only Mobile 1 that had over 200K on the motor. It needed valve guides and seals as well as a good going over. The valve springs still had the blue paint on them. It was so clean inside. That’s what sold me on Mobile 1 or any synthetic for that matter. Just my 2 cents.

Supertech is the Wal-mart brand right? I think I will stick with my Purolators if I can.
Fram is crap, i have a bad story that is too long to tell here about Fram. I would never buy a Fram again.

Supertech is supposed to be a very good filter even though it is the walmart brand. I usually buy purolator or Wix. I will switch to Mobil 1 5w20 when my RL is broke in.

Trust me I have read reviews, like I said...I used Purolator, I have used fram if that's what was available though. Oil Filters Revealed - MiniMopar Resources

If you have had a problem with fram please share.

Csimo:

Why is Syntec a "fake synthetic"? What does that mean? Even Mobil 1 is no longer a FULL synthetic. Can you explain to us your comment? A good source for oil info is bobistheoilguy.com. They've talked extensively about Mobil 1 and it's composition changes, and other oils. Lots of good info for those interested.

Well, I have had two major oil change mishapes in my 39 years of life and they were both with Fram oil filters. They both happened within 2 months of each other. The first incident was I drained the oil and reached up to install the filter, little did i know that the gasket fell out of the filter as i reached up to install it and the gasket landed on the frame so i did not see it fall. I also could not tell when i tightened the filter. I filled it with 4+ quarts of Mobil 1, then started it for a few seconds. When i checked the level i was confused as to why it could be so low when i filled it with the capacity of oil.
Then i realized I had about 3 quarts of oil on the garage floor.

The second incident is a bit more my fault, but again, it has never happened with another brand. I removed the old Fram filter( I always oil the gasket when installing a filter) but the gasket stuck to the engine block. I installed the new filter and could not tell that it now had double gaskets and was not seating all the way. Filled with mobil 1 and....... see above paragraph for the rest

Needless to say, my previous house had a well oiled garage

Wink Re: What is your engine oil?

The oil I use is Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-20. I use the SuperTech Oil Filter ST7317.

Thanks,

Interesting, yeah depending on which way the filter sits and how you access it I can see that happening. I had a fram filter once that I had to reset the rubber seal on it twice but I noticed it because of the angle I was at under my car. I noticed it before I even twisted it on. I think they shouldn't move off the filter.

At least you didn't lose all your oil when you drove and had your engine seize.
