Don't let it get to you. At the 2007 National ROC Meet, I showed CSIMO and the Honda reps that the OEM filter that came in my Ridgeline from the factory had an oily residue on it. The responses ranged from "the design criteria does not call for oil on the airfilter" to "It helps the filter trap the airborne particulates".

All I know is that before the 2006 national meet I asked K & N to have their drop in filter made for the Ridgeline independantly tested against the OEM filter and Frams' Airhog Filter. They initially agreed stating that this would be a great way to educate the ROC members and to show just how great their filters are. After a bit, K & N stated that the testing would be conducted in house as they already had the testing gear and experience to test to the current air filtration standards. Tests were completed, BUT, K & N's legal whizkids got involved and stated that no part of the results would be published to anyone except to K & N and me. This requirement then changed to include me having to sign a confidentiality agreement (Restricting me from sharing the results with anyone without K & N's prior approval). As several of my family members are lawyers (Blacksheep of the family), I consulted them. They read the CA and stated that I would have to be "stupid" to sign it as I had no way of knowing who K & N share the test results with and I have no control over what happens with the test results, ect. I never signed the agreement and I have never seen the results.

By the way, the brand new OEM Honda Ridgeline air filter that I just picked up has the same oily residue on it as the one that came from the factory And no, I no longer use the K & N drop in air filter on my truck.

Re: K&N Drop In feedback

Interesting story Mike.

I've no problem with light oil as a filter. The way Honda does it, it is an augmentation to the perfectly good paper filter. That oil film is layed down in a relatively controlled fashion... compared to the hit and miss way the average K&N owner will do.

But the way K&N does it, the oil is doing the heavy lifting. And it must be put in right, and at intervels, otherwise you risk inadequate filtering on one end, versus too much oil on the other.

That is a handwaving argument... but then in the absence of long term testing in the real-world.... I'll take mine over theirs.

I'm behind you 100%.

The more I read on here, the more I just need to step away from the "reply" button. God forbid someone offers up their experiences or suggestions around here, without some half wit, coming to shoot it down. Some people will always argue how stock is best, because [enter brand name here]designed it that way.

Sure I could post up all the customs Ive built over the years, along with each and every mod completed, but it would just be taken as "show boating" to some here. Mean while eBay seems to be the "customiser" of choice to some here so who am I to show whats considered different.

I have read almost all your (NJRTX) replies here, and you sound like you really know your stuff, thanks.

Hey, I went to school to become a wit... but only made it half way through.

I generally stay out of threads like this other than to poke fun, because it always comes down to name calling in the name of an "opinion".
So, here's my poke.

Mike, you have to stop using your air filter as a plate for your french fries and cheese curd with gravy....

Chris...thanks. It's nice to see those with an open mind aren't afraid to speak up for fear of being chastised.

Voices..I love ya, but ya have to remember to throw in all of the condescending retorts from Csimo prior to my resorting to that. Considering I laid out what I thought was a boat load of evidence and most of it was bashed, I think I did pretty well in the "not letting the BS bring me down" department. Like I said before...no sense beating this one anymore. Considering there were over 1000 views and only 45 responses (most of which from 2 people) I would think there are allot of other people out there with an interest but maybe afraid to offend the gods...
