Re: want LOUD exhaust

I’m not much on adding a loud exhaust on anything less than an eight cylinder engine. In my opinion it sounds like a fart in a coke bottle!! I grew up in the era of the big V8 roar with the Thrush and Cherry Bomb glass pack mufflers behind a good set of Hooker headers. There is just no substitute for them old pushrod V8’s . If you must add an after market exhaust then the Flowmaster is way loud enough!

Honda sells a performance exhaust for the Civic. It's many times louder than the stock, but is still a Honda accessory like mudguards and cargo nets. Then throw on an intake on that Civic and during acceleration, you can hear that car many blocks away.
I love the sound of a good exhaust. Perhaps none better than a Ferrari or a Ford SVT V8. They are not quiet by any means. But there is definitely such a thing as TOO loud. That is why noise ordinances exist.

The easiest way to do this is to get a metal toolbox & put a pile of loose wrenches in it. Put the toolbox right behind the driver's seat. Bounce over a speed bump & it will sound just like a Fordodgmc.

Re: want LOUD exhaust

A buddy of mine has a Chevy 283 small block in a 68 Camero he is a machinist by trade, he converted a thru hull exhaust from a stingray boat. At the switch of a toggle he can convert his rod to open headers. I don't know that much about it but it also converts air flow and gas mixture, I will tell you one thing when he hits that switch next to an unsuspecting hot rodder lining up for a green light 9 times out of ten they wave him on by shear intimidation. The sound is unbelievable.

QTP I believe is one of the best companies for electric exhaust cutouts.

No need to modifiy a Silent Choice system off a boat, their systems are simple to install and wire.

Do a google search, you will find tons of pictures and info on few places that offer them. Youtube has a bunch of videos too.....

Wink Re: want LOUD exhaust.....

So what is the overall opinion here for "wanting a loud exhaust?"

I am a 57 year old female that once owned a 68 AMC Javelin (6 banger) single exhaust that I had modified into two, then added two thrush mufflers and tail pipes, jacked it up with the then famous air-pressured "Hi-jackers". Had deep dish chrome mag wheels and chunky lettered tires. Great sound system, 6 spkrs with an 8-track player and FM (ou...wee). I was set to go and never went un-noticed (hey I was 17). Got carried away, sorry (new at this)...anyway, I was very pleased with the sound of the Woody-wood-pecker (pictured on the sides) of the Thrush's I had. But must admit, I truly loved the sound of my friends 1966 Goat (yeah baby.....4 barrel dual exhaust 8, plus some..........that's loud and music to my ears! That's why I visit antique car shows often now where I live...lot's of deep throaty sound going on there....I'd take any one of them!)

So, fellow Ridge owners....what about a glass pak? I'm interested in some kind of Hearty Deep sound (NOT droaning). Just want your overall opinion here...is it.......a

Magna flow muffler only?
Magna Flow Cat-back?
Flowmaster Cat-back?
Flowmaster muffler?
Borla muffler or cat-back?
Glass pak muffler? If so, any particular brand?
Cherry bomb(?) muffler?
Any others to consider?
Tailpipe out the back or out the side? 90 degree angle? What's with
that and where? Before the rear tire or after?

I've also wondered (dumb as it sounds to most of you)....don't we all have to have a catalytic convertor on our vehicles by law? When the cat-back is installed is it part of it? One shop told me to just put a magnflow muffler on and that will give me the sound I want. If not he said we can remove the cataltic convertor to make it louder. Guess that's okay in Florida...dunno? Does anyone know if it's legal in NY?
Thanks for your time in reading all this....I'm glad I found you all....Fellow Ridge-er's!
