K&N system for Ridgeline

I emailed K&N regaurding either a drop in filter or cold air system. At this time they do not have a system yet.

Results will vary depending on your vehicle, driving habits, load on the engine (towing for example), existing air system restriction, and other factors. Many K&N users report an increase in miles per gallon. K&N air filters and intake kits provide less restriction on your engine’s air intake than typical original equipment manufacturer (OEM) filters and air box systems. Less restriction can provide for more efficient combustion. Our internal testing is performed using employee and customer vehicles. We usually have the cars for a short period of time that will only allow for fit checks and dyno (power curve) testing. If you take advantage of added power by driving harder, you will not see much of a gain, if any, in MPG. Also if you add a K&N filter and the primary source of air restriction in the OEM system is the air box, you won’t see much of a difference in power or MPG unless you add a K&N intake kit to reduce the restriction.


Unfortunately, K&N has not yet released air filter products for the Ridgeline, and we do not publish release dates for products currently in development. If you live reasonbly close to Riverside CA, and willing to give up your Ridgleine for a few days to let them R&D. They'll hook you up once the product goes into production!!

I would do this but I live 6 hours from Riverside!

So Ridgleine Brotherhood, lend them your ride! You'll get one On K&N! We'll have to shell out a few bucks for ours!! The sooner someone gets this to them, the sooner we can all have kewl toys for our Ridgelines!

Wish they had an office in Auburn, CA 95603 I would do it.

I would be really careful using a K&N filter on your Ridge. It can mess up the air sensor and cause rough idle. The HP gains are so miniscule that it's hardly worth it anyway. I had an F150 that I put one on and it screwed up my smooth running v-8. I got rid of it and cleaned off the oil from the sensor and then it ran great.
Just a warning, do what you want.

Does the ridgeilne have a MAF sensor or MAP? MAF sensors tend to be more sensitive to over oiling because the oil can get on the sensor's "hot wire". MAP tends to not have this issue.

Do a search for K&N here on the forums. There's a particular thread that has a lot of information about the use of K&N filters vs. new paper filters, etc. It's very informative and may give you pause to think about using a K&N.

I submitted the info for my RT/L on the K&N filter web site you mentioned.
I live 16.7 miles from their R&D shop in Riverside.

But I’m hesitant to use a K&N filter after reading some of the posts on filters in the ROC.

Here’s my limited experience so far with them.

BTW, I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread after reading all their propaganda and hearing of an air flow demo my brother saw where he works in Riverside. He said it was amazing how much more airflow the filter allowed over other filters. “ACCORDING TO THEIR DEMO” is what I said.

I put a K&N on my twin turbo 3000gt vr4 a few years ago. I haven’t driven it much but I have washed and oiled it once exactly as the instructions say. BTW don’t ever-ever dry your K&N with compressed air, ruins the delicate gauze filter media. Have to let it sit and air dry.

Now all of a sudden my vr4 has started to misfire (more of a hesitation) and backfire on slight acceleration but not so much after I get it up to cruising speed.

I was ready to take it to the dealer thinking the injectors might be clogged UNTIL I read a few post’s here regarding oil contamination of the MAF sensor and wonder if that’s my problem.
I also put a K&N on my motor home and guess what. It’s doing the same thing. Although it’s just a plain 454cu chevy with EFI, no turbo with MAF sensor.

Now for the MAIN reason I’m hesitant to use one.

After cleaning and oiling these filters and looking at the sun through them I can see right through the spaces in the gauze filter media.

I don’t see how they can filter dust and dirt particles adequately. I can see their great airflow qualities but I am suspicious of their filtering abilities.

After reading some excellent post’s here in the ROC on this subject I’m now very suspicious.

If K&N contacts me for R&D on the RL, which I doubt they will, they are going to have to show me and convince me of good filtering ability.

So show me! I guess I should move to Missouri.

There is absolutely no benefit to using a K&N air filter on the Ridgeline. On the flip side it will eventually cause harm due to the very low filter efficiency of the K&N.

You can add the K&N air filter to the list of deer whistles, miracle oil treatments, intake tornado's, gas line magnets, and engine rebuilding pellets. All are worthless or worse. In the case of the K&N it's worse than worthless.
