What is the max speed in each gear?

I was curious what the maximum speed was in each gear, so I calculated the folllowing speeds. I used 6,250 RPM and a static loaded tire radius of 14 1/8".
Since I was doing the calculations, I also included the overall drive ratio to the rear wheels.

Gear Max. Speed Overall Ratio
1st --------38----------12.207
2nd--------66------------7.099
3rd--------101-----------4.637
4th--------142*----------3.305
5th--------196*----------2.407

* Theoretical only - limited by speed limiter and horsepower

In a previous thread, someone wondered why the RL doesn't shift into 5th at speeds lower than 47 mph. If the shift occured at a lower speed, say 40 mph, the engine would only be turning about 1270 rpm.

Re: What is the max speed in each gear?

Max speed in each gear is when the engine blows up.

Talking Re: What is the max speed in each gear?

I doubt this truck makes enough power to get to 142mph, especially sicne it isn't areodynamic. My 89 mustang could only muster 135mph in stock form.

Re: What is the max speed in each gear?

All Honda’s have fuel cut to prevent over-revving the engine. The shift point in manual is actually a little different at max throttle than in “D”.

The top speed is limited based on the tire specs.
