Re: Fuel Tank

I usally fill up around at about 250 miles, it seems. I would not run my truck down, it is the damage to the full pump that I really would worry about. I assume it is in the gas tank and something I don't want to mess with.

Why let your tank run that low? From what I understand, it is not good for your engine (Fuel Injectors?) to run your RL completely dry.

My advice: Fill up shortly after the low fuel light comes on. Then you don't have to worry whether you can "use" all 22 gallons.

Going below 1/4 tank is not recommended, as when the tank has at least a quarter tank the fuel assists in cooling the fuel pump. Consistently going below a quarter tank causes the fuel pump to run hotter than it needs to, decreasing its life.

Sorry, I must have missed that, where did you read that? Honda manual? Love to see the link.

Well that sucks.

I have been running to the low fuel indicator light to keep a more accurate mpg check.

Was keeping track of mpg with break-in oil, then doing an equal length check with Mobil 1 synthetic for a comparison check.

Anywhere we can read up on this topic?

Can't find anything in Owners Manual.

Maybe someone with Service Manual?

Re: Fuel Tank

i am guessing that you all live in the south. in the winter you want to keep atleast 1/4 tank of gas. i usually do not let it get far under half. frozen gas lines and water in the lines almost always happens to the guys that run there gas down.

i have one question - why do you want to run your gas down so low

So I can fill up once a week instead of twice. Isn't working though...can't quite make it a full week, but now it's like five times every 3 weeks instead of twice a week, so it saves me 1 stop every 3 weeks.

Re: Fuel Tank

i guess there is only one gas station near your commute and there is always a lineup . i tend to pass the station when it is -10c. it only takes 2 to 5 min to fill up at half a tank. alot better than having to walk to a station ( my luck would be dead center of the two gas stations.

i guess this is an individual thing - also i have learned that if i do not keep the tank at half my wife will run out of gas and then guess who has to deal with the missing gas. why is it some people(wife) can not see the gas gauge on any vehicle. they all can not be hidden by the wheel can they?

Sounds like an urban myth to me. The decrease in pressure head from a full tank to 1/4 is just a matter of inches so is really of little consequence.
Or look at it from fuel tank sizes. If I have a 40 gal. tank and you have a 18 gal. tank, I have 10 gal. left at a quarter tank while you have 4.5 gal.
Is your fuel pump going to burn out faster? I would be very curious as to the origin of this recommendation.

Well I have never heard of any fuel pump coolling issue on any car. However I suppose if there were less gas in the tank and its used to cool something there would be less "coolant" (the gas) in the tank which could dissapate heat and thus cause something to warm up.

This sounds like one of those algebra questions from 8th grade.

"If swampler fills his Ridgeline three times as often as Lady Ridge but puts in two thirds the amount of gas used by locdoc, how many..."
