Re: banging noise

Was very careful to listen this morning leaving the drive as I tiptoed the truck into the street over the curb .. Nothing happened. Then I gave it some gas and it happened. "Clunk/creek" I think its more of a suspension/strut issue. Will be interested in seeing what your dealer says BigRidge, please send a detailed post when you get it back.

Re: banging noise

Not sure if this is what you are experiencing, however Honda lists a "Clunk noise and then a bump when backing and turning" as "Normal clutch engagement at throttle opening" in their system.

Re: banging noise

Im not backing up, I pull out of my garage. Did it again this morning and got to the street without a sound, tapped the gas and there it was. Seems like it is something in the suspension and very possibly the struts sticking. Honda may need to do the shims on these like the MDX had. ?

Re: banging noise

I disabled my locks a couple days ago to hear it better. Well that and I feel guilty that everyone that rides along gets stuck inside trying to get out like caged animals. Im not so sure that locking your passengers in a vehicle is the safest thing to do unless you live in an area in which you feel the need to have it. ( sorry different topic )

Will check again each morning to see if I can pinpoint it better.

i was thinking that possibly even with the locks off, if there is something that engages in relation to the power train, it would still engage (make noise) although the locks would not.....right?...........uhhh, hello?

The noise is from the front suspension, what do you think is engaging doctor? And IF this is supposed to happen, why is it only after the truck has sat overnight? Maybe its an alarm clock? Mice? Dead ghost of a previous Honda? Squirrel trying to get a nut? Ridgeline morning gas? RidgeCough? Transclunking?

The locks are supposed to lock at what 8 or 9mph? this happens as you hit the gas ( and not hard ) 1st thing like the front suspension is picking up as the weight is distributed to the rear of the truck. That's what it sounds like.

I have only recently noticed this, and it truly is a "banging noise" (subject) or "mechanical clunk" as gormley described it. But since it is a recent thing, it wouldn't qualify as "normal" I don't think.

In any case I await bigridge's experience and will be listening for this more in the future.

Re: banging noise

This mornings test provided some more results. Again I crept out of the garage and drive sneaking into the street and came to a stop. I waited to see if it would happen by just sitting and it didnt. I let off the brake and coasted up the street very slow giving it the least amount of gas possible at or around a speed of less than 5 mph. Clunk... it did happen again and not from the suspension. Im thinking it may be a VTM clutch now as the noise seemed to come from that area. Still wondering why it only happens after sitting overnight and not each time you start the truck and drive away.

Will be interested to see the dealers response from BigRidge's adventure.

And yes im sure by now my neighbors are thinking I have lost it
