Re: banging noise

I don't have any noises in my Ridgy, but last night I was driving my wife's 02 CRV, and I heard a loud bang (thought I ran over something) and a few feet ahead, I heard it again. Her Parking Brakes were partially pulled, not enough to lite up the indicator. After I released the brakes, the noise went away....check your parking brakes, you may have stepped on it and engaged it slightly.

Re: banging noise

[ Still wondering why it only happens after sitting overnight and not each time you start the truck and drive away.

Will be interested to see the dealers response from BigRidge's adventure.

And yes im sure by now my neighbors are thinking I have lost it [/quote]

well i thought i noticed it when i left work yesterday. will check again at lunch today. will do the "creeping" thing...........

thanks for posting so quickly......i think the trick is to get them to listen after its been sitting a while...i notice mine does it first startup in the morning. i noticed it does it if i leave for lunch at work......when i leave for work.......but if i pull over, put in park, and then shift back into drive, it does
not do it. seems like the truck has to sit for a bit........

Re: banging noise

Weekend update.. both days I carefully listened to the sound again and have come to the conclusion that the noise I am hearing is the VTM 4 clutch plates engaging and or system resetting. I have the feeling this is a normal task for the VTM to set itself prior to each drive or maybe even daily. I thought about this after reading a review.

A quote from a review...
" Doing so keeps the maximum voltage applied to the electromagnetic 19 wet clutch plates so the torque to the rear wheels is evenly split. "

Thoughts ? Comments ? other Possible Causes ?

Im leaning towards what you mentioned but what is throwing me off is that i hear it multiple times a day after being parked for atleast a little bit. i did your creeping thing and "bang" at about 5 mph. pulled over and put in park and shut off engine. restarted engine, did the creep, and at 5 mph no "bang".
maybe you could double check me using these methods....i also pulled over, put in park, shifted back into driver and crept along...........no bang. i tried to be thorough teck but i would be more comfortable if you used same methods as well so as to confirm/refute results.
