Clay Bar Works Wonders

Who ever invented the clay bar has my thanks a 1,000 times.
Here is why the RTL is comming up on a month since we got it.
It now has a little over 500 miles so last week early mourning Iam driving in rush hour traffic & its dark. I made a quick trip & then came back then made another quick trip to the store almost same route. I come out of the house about 4 hours later to wipe the truck down. The right side of the truck front to back is covered with what looks like mud. I then say to myself I did not remember driving in any mud. This was not mud on the Dark Cherry Pearl RTL it was a pink Bed Room color paint all over & under the truck. It was in the tire treads fender flarees. It was from the bottom to mid way up the doors & also around the tailgate. The left hand side of the truck was not even touched. I went back out shortly on a quick trip & saw the paint laying in the road. I have not had a chance to work on the truck since last week to get it off. Its paint splater all over I was working hard using paint cleaner it was comming off but very very slow. I had some old clay bar I found I had forgot about it . I used it only one time about 4 yrs ago on my ACURA. When I tried the old clay bar with some detail spray to keep it wet the pink paint was comming off fast. I then made a quick trip to Autozone to get some more.So if you have anything on the paint that wont come off easy get yourself some clay bar. I got the original Clay Magic kind but also got some Turtle Wax Ice clay bar I will try that on my car.

I too have used clay on problen paint areas and stains that nothing else would remove. It got some stubborn water/salt stains off that nothing else would remove. It is not a commonly known tool for removing these paint blemishes. What a great tool this forum is for sharing info.

Re: Clay Bar Works Wonders

I use detailing clay three or four times a year on my Hondas. I have not tried it for stubborn, challenging clean ups, though. Clay leaves the finish nub-free and glass-like, and should be in everyone's arsenal. Waxing is necessary after detailing with clay as it will remove any existing wax on the vehicle.

There are several sources but Griot's garage has it for sure.

Re: Clay Bar Works Wonders

While waxing my ridgeline I caused the 3 foot ladder that I was using for the top to hit the left passenger door and left about a 3/8's scratch. I ordered some touchup paint from HandA and when it came in I cleaned the scratch and proceeded to try to cover the scratch.

The ink pen tip did not want to work so I used the brush from the bottle and thought I got the paint a little thick. After letting it dry for a day I used a little rubbing compound on it and all I did was cause about a 1 inch swirl around the scratch.

While in Pep Boys the other day I saw some Turtle Wax Ice Clay Bar. So I thought I would try it. Today I used some of it and it completly removed/covered up the swirl in the paint, so I added a little bit more of the touch up paint and it looks a lot better although you can still see the scratch when you change your viewing angle.

I would really reccomend the Turtle Wax Ice Clay bar. I would never of known of the product Clay Bar if it had not of been for the ROC. I have learned a lot on here, of course it has cost me more seeing the things I would not of known of had I not have become a member here.

Thanks ROC.
