Aquapel Glass Treatment

I don't know how many of you know of or have used this product.
Aquapel Glass Treatment is a product that last 6x longer then other glass treatments. Its much better then Rain X but do to its cost & one time use I use it on the windshield & 2 sides. It is made by PPG Industries Leaders in Glass Technology. I have used it on my car about 5 times & its time to get some more on.
I want to put some on the Ridgeline before road trips start. Tire Rack sells it.
You can find info at tirerack.com in the otther products section.
I also picked my last aplication at a auto glass repair shop.
This was when I had my car in for a little rock chip in the windshield.
They sell it & you can put it on yourself easy but Tire Rack my have the best price if you want more then one.

Re: Aquapel Glass Treatment

I have posted my experience and asked if any others use it. No one seems to care…

I have been using it on my RL for about a year. The angle of the windshield is not as great as our Vue so it really only works well at higher speeds, but for night driving it is superb.

I have applied it to all the windows and mirrors. The windshield does need to be refreshed about every 6 months where as my wifes Vue about once a year.

As a side business I set myself up as a distributor and purchase it by the case.

Re: Aquapel Glass Treatment

I found out about it 7yrs ago when my ACURA was new.
I went to have my car windows tinted at Ziiebart & they had the stuff.
They put it on the windshield & sides & it was wonderful to see it work.
I do alot of night Highway driving & when it rains this stuff is very helpful.
I also had the stuff last about a year on the car & then to for only 6months. I may have put it on the last time in a humid condition that the box says to aviod.

Re: Aquapel Glass Treatment

My .02 worth.

My experience with the stuff was very negative. I applied it to my CRV, and regretted it. It produced a film on the windshield, which would smear horribly in a light rain or mist. I tried everything in the world to get it off, with no success.

I finally got rid of it by selling the CRV & buying a Ridgeline!

Re: Aquapel Glass Treatment

Somebody explain the benefits of this stuff & if possible, how it would be removed (alcohol? vinegar? ammonia? sulfuric acid?).

My concern is that I can't get water spots off the glass as it is. Wouldn't a treatment like this just seal the spots in?

I picked up 2 single use applications today from the auto glass repair shop.
The cost was $12.95ea they charge $18 if they apply it.
When you apply it to the windshield do one half section at a time
DO NOT LET Aquapel air dry on windshield wipe immediatelywith paper towel.
Failure to do so will cause hazing that requires additional buffing with paper towel. Do not use in Temps colder then 50 or hotter then 90 & in excessively humid coditions. Also before use clean windows a few times.
I am going to clean mine with some old auto window cleanser that I still have.

Re: Aquapel Glass Treatment

As an installer of the stuff (a little side business) I did extensive research. Here is a link where you can watch a video and read some company info... http://www.ppg.com/gls_aquapel/default.htm

Aquapel was originally designed for the aircraft industry.

The benefits:

1) Even in hard rains, the wipers only need to be on low intermittent. For those that complain about the speed of the wipers being too slow, this will solve your problem. At highway speeds depending on how hard it is raining/snowing I sometimes do not use the wipers at all. The water just "fly’s" off

2) In the winter, snow slides off much easier off the glass. I never have to scrape. All I do is take some Prestone deicer spray..spray it on and wipe off with my car squeegee or foam snow brush.

3) Because of how it repels water, during night driving with precipitation I don't use my wipers.

4) When there is thick condensation on the outside of the windows and side mirrors, there is no need to wipe off the water, just a little vehicle motion, gets the water to accumulate and "run off"

For those that have had bad experience with aquapel, it should not be used with wiper blades that put a layer of silicone on your windshield. The silicone released from that type of wiper blade creates a smear.

Once aquapel is applied, it has to ware away. It is not affected by glass cleaners, alcohols or acid rain. Also be warned it is not good if it gets on your paint or plastic/rubber parts when being applied. Also you do not want to be in a closed area because the vapors can burn your eye's and mucus lining....

It is an easy application process.

For those of you that have used Rain-X the true benefit is durability and lasting effect. It is also more cost effective.
