How Do You Clean Tree Sap From Bed??
I hauled around some downed evergreens and now the bed has tree sap in a few places. Is it safe to use a bug and tar remover on the bed?
Before anyone mentions it -- Yes, this is a truck. However, I also use the bed to haul things I'd like to keep clean. I'm not asking how to remove or cover scratches, but would like to CLEAN the bed. Thanks in advance!! |

Re: How Do You Clean Tree Sap From Bed??
You won't hurt the bed with bug and tar remover. I've used laquer thinner on it and did no harm. Bug and tar is just kerosene.

Re: How Do You Clean Tree Sap From Bed??
I agree with shovel and moose, but I like simple green too. (start with it diluted 50/50, only use full strength if need be)

Re: How Do You Clean Tree Sap From Bed??
Let us know what you use and how it works.
I had pine tree sap on my '00 Pathfinder that I traded in for the RL. The sap was there for about 5 years. I couldn't get it off the paint with anything (including bug and tar, and anything else commercially available) the day after it got on the truck nor right before I traded it in. I spoke with a body shop and they said the only way to get it off is boiling water to soften it up. They make a ring (dam) around the sap and pour boiling water into the ring and let it sit, then rub it off best they can and buff. I never got brave enough to try it. I figured after 5 years in the sun it would be able to be scraped off or something, but it wouldn't come off at all. I learned to park far away from pine trees. I guess the composite bed might be less critical than the hood in how well you clean it off. Good Luck! Last edited by lou_vnj : 10-05-2007 at 07:35 PM. |

Re: How Do You Clean Tree Sap From Bed??
I just had the same problem last week. Used paint thinner. Worked very well. Followed up with a good rub down of 303 Protectant.
