Formal Black: Is it clear coat or not?

Folks:
Is Formal Black clearcoated? If not, does this mean it needs extra attention or better quality waxes and/or polishes with the cool paint oils? Thanks. O.

I was under the assumption that all Honda vehicles had a clear coat on them, I couldn't imagine why yours would not. My 88 Accord Coupe Black Metallic with Gold leaf flake had it (sighs) I loved that car.

Thanks. Good to know. My previous ride was a Midnight black CR-V and the clear coat seemed so much "deeper" I was concerned maybe Formal Black wasn't clear coated. I feel much better. Oa

When my (Formal Black) 06 is in the sun you can see that it is so dark blue that it looks black. You can see dark blue and some silver sparkles under the clear coat. Unfortunately, my clear coat is starting to get little cracks arond the right front of the hood. It will grow to look like shattered glass. My 1979 280ZX had that problem when it was about 4 years old. In my opinion tow years is too soon for the clear coat to be cracking.

The Honda paint is inferior. Time will prove this as we all have had at least one issue with the paint on our cars. The clear coat is very thin and unforgiving to say the least as compared to the American and/or German vehicles that I've owned in the past.

Honda uses a base coat/clear coat on the RL. I know. I've already had to paint mine. The paint was almost exactly $200/pint for the basecoat & clearcoat.

I'd show you "after" pics after I pulled the dent, sanded, primered, and painted but they look just like any other Redrock RL pics. You can't even tell there was any damage.

Wow, ChrisM. Glad you were able to repair that successfully. May I ask what happened (or is it in another thread somewhere)?
